Makes ya wonder if that was to happen more often, would the number of attempts go down??

That's one way to call the jumper's bluff. It's probably not a PC thing to do, but one can understand the man's frustration.
PC? It does remind me of the suicide scene from the movie Dirty Harry. I'd be less worried about "assisting" the jumper than being arrested for attempted murder.

Exactly! At least the attempts wouldn't be made in public places.

Still, it's a sad note that people get into such emotional states and have feel they have no other means of dealing with personal issues.

It is a very sad state of affairs when any person gets to the end of their rope and sees suicide as the only solution. Perhaps even sadder when seen in a pediatric setting. But then the staff deal with it by THINKING OF suggesting such imaginary books/sites as "Suicide; Getting it right the first time". (While providing compassionate care for the victim and family).

Bummer situation all the way around.

I would have to think it was very selfish of the passer-by to push the man. Who knows if the man would have really jumped on his own. So the passer-by was late or something, that justifies his actions?

Using that same logic one could then justify doing in anyone for what ever selfish reasons. Makes you wander if people in cages think motorcyclists are selfish. Maybe cagers might think motorcyclists need a push.... off the road. Just sayin'... It aint right regardless.

"I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."

There's a small twist to this story, in case anyone missed it. The guy (Lai) that pushed the man (Chen) of the bridge was on the way to the hospital to re-up his mental disorder medication. Heck, Lai even shook Chen's hand before pushing him, and then saluted Chen as he fell. Wow!

This was obviously a little deranged. But on the other hand, the Chinese occasionally do things like this without real emotion attached, instead employing sometimes vicious, efficient logic.

Let's take Bernard Madoff for example. In China, he'd have been executed by now. They do this regularly in cases like his. And who could argue? This man single-handedly ruined hundreds or thousands of peoples' lives. And now, we'll spend millions trying him and likely millions more housing him for the rest of his crappy existence.
