It is surprising that the 2013 didn't get the ES suspension since the 2013 was a "makeover" model, but maybe it wasn't ready for production yet?
It was available in Europe on their equivalent of the AE. Were they privileged or Guinea pigs?
Probably the latter?

So how many have a new '14 "A" or "ES" model ordered??

I do. an ES , trading in my '03, will have a few accessories for Gen1 bikes available very soon.

Same here, trading my 03' in also. Some nice Gen 1 farkles available soon.

We've had our 03's for a longggg time. I'm really looking forward to the new 14' ES, but my 03' has been a fantastic bike, save a stator failure.

I was going to start taking off accessorties last weekend. Still some riding to do before the snow flys so I think I'll hold off a bit.

We might not see the 2014 ES's until December or January, who knows for sure.

Maybe a bit of the guinea pig thing and maybe a bit of holding a little something back to maintain the appearance of progress ("these things get better every year!")? Maybe pushes back the inevitable complaints that will come down the road..."they haven't updated this bike in ___ years."

We of the Forum read that the '13 European AE got upside down, electronically adjustable forks and we said, "Whaa, whaa, why do the Europeans get the good suspension and why did Yamaha have to bundle it with the AE?" With lots of commotion and attention we grumbled about it for a model year, then out of the blue Yamaha announces the '14 with the optional electronic suspension (and you get it independently of the AE). It was almost like Yamaha was trying to get our attention hand hold us on the edge of our chairs. Last time I saw a setup like this it was done by someone trying to sell me something ;) . Judging from the number of people that are talking about buying a RED FJR, and the RED FJR with the electronic suspension it looks like this was what Yamaha needed to do to get people to finally trade up.

It could be that. If it was true I'd say they are total marketing geniuses. Which is exactly why I don't think that this has been their plan all along.

Looking back at how the 2nd gens were marketed, in '06 the AE came with heated grips, but the A's did not. They wanted to make the AE's more of a luxury "package" so that people would feel better about having to pay so much more for the auto-clutch version. I think they were trying to do the same with the suspension in 2013, use it to differentiate the AS and maybe get it to sell better. I doubt that it ever worked out that way, which would be why they now have transitioned the ES to the non-auto clutch bikes.

Did they finally listen and provide a package that appeals to the biggest segment of the ST market? I guess that is to be seen when we get some folks to put the new suspension package through the ringer.

I had that same thought too as I was writing that. When I hear all 'those people' talking about all those complicated and involved government conspiracies my first thought is that the government can't even get the simple things right, let alone a completely secret and highly convoluted plan.

That's more or less true for me. Until 2013, I didn't see enough changes that could entice me to move from my 06. 2013 got my trigger finger itching, but, like others here, I thought that they might introduce the ES within a year or two. Since my riding is mostly two up, the ES is very appealing. Add all the other improvements and we have a winner. Plunked my deposit down and now the waiting begins. Expected delivery in the dead of winter

I just returned from the local Yamaha dealership. They don't have any 2014s and they (say) they have not been allowed to place any orders yet. I asked the salesman about the website saying Sept. and Oct. for the respective bikes and he said he was aware of that. According to the salesman they are not going to be allowed to even place orders for the ES version for another 3-4 weeks. He told me to expect a December, close to Christmas, delivery.

They did have a '13 on the floor with a "Sold" sign on the seat. I am going to have to see a red one in person before I make any decisions.

It did not help that I just found out that the replacement ECU for my ST1300 is backordered. No one has a new one anywhere. MSRP on a new ECU is $1007.00 and I think that would be a decent chunk of a down payment on a new FJR...

which dealer was it? Gonzales or Friendly?

When I got my '13 from Gonzales, they received the bike almost a month sooner than they were told it would be in.

That was at Friendly Honda/Yamaha. I think your old bike is still on the floor at GN Gonzales. I am just disgusted enough with my Honda right now to pull the trigger on something else...

Should someone warn Mrs Redfish her life is in danger?
My overly smart friend, that is one thing you will never have to worry about! Mrs. Redfish is one of only two things at this house that I love more than my motorcycle.

Mrs. Redfish hates the motorcycle. She will not ride it. Her logic concerning it is (I LOVE this part) "IF you MUST ride a motorcycle it has to be completely reliable and completely safe. If yours has any chance of failure you MUST replace it."

I thrive on the fact that Dad has the faster, better looking, "cooler" motorcycle. I love that folks compliment him on his bike when we go somewhere. No one ever compliments my ST.

I honestly do not need the Electronic Suspension. I make no secret of the fact that I seldom if ever out ride the capabilities of the Blue Whale I am riding now. I will say that the lure of a new bike is getting stronger. Depending on the result of my ECU hunt...

Cycle Trader shows one of my local dealerships (within 100 miles) having the '14s in stock. I knew it was B.S. but I called anyway. They are still checking their stock in confusion... I would love to see this color live and in person.

Of course I know better than to make decisions when I am working nights.

Sounds like you have been granted permission to get that 2014 FJR!
