Reigning NERDS Granite Lane Gold Medalist
So as I rolled out of bed today the first thing that came to mind is what do I need to do today. Well the back lawn needs mowing, well yes it does but what else needs to be done. The FJR has not been out of the garage since coming back from Spearfish. That won't do but I need a reason to take the FJR out of the garage.
Well I would like a buttertart but I don't have any in the house so there's my reason to get the FJR out and push the lawnmower further back in the garage. I don't want just any buttertart, I need to find the perfect buttertart. Someone told me there are award winning buttertarts in Campbellford on the other side of Rice Lake. There was some rain in the forecast but I'm not some jamtart Zonie that melts if one raindrop hits me so Plan A is to run the south shore of Rice Lake since it is a nice scenic ride.
I first had to stop at the small engine repair shop in Hampton to order some chainsaw parts. What chainsaws have to do with buttertarts I don't know but I'm a multi-tasker so I threw this little stop into the mix since I was sort of heading that way. I made a stop along the lake to catch a photo op of this old barn...
There was a decent view of the lake from this corner too...
I stopped in Harcourt to see if anyone was catching any Pickerel but they were not having much luck....
Now you would have to be a Dane to put Pickerel on a buttertart so I continued working my way east till I arrived in the town of Campbellford....
I got myself a smores covered buttertart...
This was much better than cutting the lawn. Since I was in Campbellford I better take care of a few other tasks....
It is the World's Finest so how can I not go in....
If Stanley was here I would have had to pull him out of this barrel by the ankles....
It was here that I had an epiphany that Chocolate is the answer, not buttertarts....
After picking up a few samples I was getting a little thirsty. The Churchkey Microbrewery is just up the road about ten minutes north of Campbellford. As I arrived there seemed to be a commotion going on....
A number of small microbreweries had gotten together and were offering samples. For $5 you got a small 5 oz glass and two tickets to sample any number of offerings. For one ticket you got a half glass and two tickets got the full 5 oz sample. You could also buy more tickets. Since I was on the bike I had to be sensible and keep the sampling to 15 ounces....
I did pick up a growler of Northumberland Pale Ale and a proper 20 oz glass for later however. They also had live music as part of the entertainment and everyone was enjoying the day....
The skies were darkening somewhat so I loaded up my growler and other items in the sidebag to keep them safe and headed back west crossing over the Trent Waterway...
There was a large pleasure boat but I couldn't get the bike in the photo with the boat. I made a quick stop in Hastings to see if a friend was home. Her place is just across the street from the start of Rice Lake....
By now it was close to dinnertime so once I reached the other end of Rice Lake I stopped in at Rhinos in Bewdley....
I had just missed the rain. The burger and onion rings hit the spot but the radar on the iPhone was showing rain in the area so I needed to get back.
I worked my way down to the north shore of Lake Ontario and ran Lakeshore Rd from Wesleyville to Newcastle. I made a quick stop in Newcastle to see if the fishermen there were having any better luck than the ones I talked to on Rice Lake....
Looking back to the east you can see a little bit of Lakeshore Rd...
While I was stopped one of the sailors was heading back into the marina...
There was also a stink boat that followed the sailbot in...
From here is was less than ten minutes to my house and I got the bike unloaded, back in the garage and just walked in the house when the rain started.
So what did I accomplish today other than put off cutting the back lawn again? I did gather up a few supplies....
and had a great ride....
of roughly 300 km.
