GA Rt 180, Runs from Suches to Rt 129.

Great road but I don't think it's better than the dragon. For one the road surface isn't the best.

Lot less people though....

Yeah, it's the road that we were on right before we got to Dales. It's the one that was covered with salt and sand so we were poking along pretty good. All of this was pre-scab flying off the road....

180 is good. But it's no Dragon. Even without the slick stuff, it lacks the quality surfaces, like JWilly said.

There are several freshly paved roads in that area that do rival the Dragon's quality, but not as long.

I road the dragon yesterday on the way home from Daytona. Pavement was super smooth and clean. Lots of "30 mph" speed limit signs and saw two cops from the store (south end) to the north end. The store and cafe is now open, but they are still working on it. Smitty

Living in WV I'm bias to the roads in the sate. I love all roads. I was just wondering what everyone thought about the difference of the dragon and wolfs pen gap. I haven't been on the dragon for 11 years or better. The last time there I seen 7 cops in 11miles and 5 had bikes pulled over. I tend to stay clear of it. Was on wolfs pen gap 3 years ago and loved it. Kind a like rt50 up cheat mountain going to Aurora.

I'ld have to agree here since I know that was the road we were on now. A nice area for sure though.

I regularly ride the high country of NC, TN, VA, and WVA. I don't think I ever been on Wolf's Pen gap, but I can assure you that there are many, many roads that put the "Dragon " to shame. I'm building a new home in Mountain City, TN ( getting the hell out of FL and it's heat ) and can't wait to be living at the foot of the "Snake "....probably #1 of my top ten rides of all time.

+1 on that. Here in Colorado, the Dragon wouldn't even get ridden, it is too short to bother with.

we have our fall rally in tellico plains. the cherohala skyway is much better-suited to liter-plus sport-touring bikes like the fjr. we do the dragon just to get to the better roads that are around it. of course, if i were on an r6 or maybe even the ktm superduke, i'd be more interested in the dragon.

What is your choice? I like Wolfs pen gap.
Bill
Neither ... the Dragon is way over-rated and Wolf Pen Gap can be very dangerous with all the sand and gravel and the perilous 100' drop-offs. Hell a guy even got killed on a bicycle last year going over one of those drop offs.

Cherohala on a sunny week day afternoon (for the twisty action) or the Blue Ridge Parkway (for the view) is my vote. A somewhat hidden jewel in Georgia is the Richard Russell Scenic Highway (SR348). Not a long ride but it is very exhilarating riding it west to east.
