We'll see if you're of the same temperment when/if it's "Your ox being gored". IMHO, Yamaha "screwed-the-pooch" on this one. With today's metalurgy, assembly techniques, and just general technology; to have any failures is more than irksome. And then to have it be something as innocuous as the lowly exhaust valve guide -- something that's been around since the first engine -- is just a plain "miserable" situation.
If you compare the number of actual/confirmed valve problems to the amount of FJRs, it is low.
I'm not so sure? Any numbers? Either way -- the instances of some serious diseases in society may be low in number -- how does that make it any better?

+1000. If it ain't theirs its always ok. But put the shoe on the other foot and hear the roar of their response. Mine was fixes, both intake and exhaust. So far so good.

Quick update guys.

Mine's a confirmed "ticker" with 35,000 on it. Yamaha is doing right by me and doing the repair :clapping:

Service manager says it should be done ASAP cause of the high mileage, so you know where she'll be right after WFO :)

Not happy she's a ticker but happy about the projected outcome ..

So, where you takin' it for the repair?

...yep, and many more to follow ! And for those pre `06 suckers, not unlike like myself, who swear that it`s only a very small number that is affected (because the problem is way overblown) all i can say is: Reality bites doesn`t it?! :assassin:

PCP Yamaha, Sacramento. It's where I bought it (July 2002) and these guys have done good by me since I first used them in '97. They have already repaired a few tickers so they know what they're doing.

Back from service today and service manager (Roseville) confirmed beginning ticker. It's a 2005 with 8000 miles, bummer. It can wait to go under the knife until winter.

Bummer, bummer :(

Hopefully not many -- but starts ya thinking though!

Glad youv'e got a good service department to keep you on the road. Also good to hear yami is covering repairs with your mileage.

Off topic Roger, but are WFO and EOM on the same dates every year?

Got to pick next years vacation dates soon.
