A Kennewick councilmember challenged other city councils to do the Polar Plunge last Saturday. Iggy rose to the cool challenge…it was a nice warm day to take a cool dunk in the Columbia River…..in January.

The water was c-c-cold! Like 35-40 degree cold depending on who you listened to. Swimming back to shore he found himself quickly losing feeling in my feet and hands.... he was slapping at the water more than swimming.

He also didn't get the memo that the weren't supposed to dive... the Herald caught him in all his glory and years of youth experience on a 1 meter board at the public pool. Purple Bulldog shirt and Cougar sweat bottoms earned him extra style points.

While it is indeed a frightful sight.... they raised about $70,000 for Special Olympics with 400 Plungers.

You are a better man than I. NO way would you see me jumping off a perfectly dry dock into 35 degree water!

Congratulations on freezing your appendages off for a great cause! :good:

It looks like Iggy has some competition though...

You know those turkey thermometers that pop out when they're cooked?

I was the same way...except that mine popped IN.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode...

Good for you Iggy.

I was in 60 degree water in Lake Michigan in June. I thought the water was icicles cold then. Don't know how you did it.

The temperature of the water you dove into was probably about the same temperature of the water, the Titanic passengers fell into and floated for a long time...

Good for you Iggy, but until you have to cut a hole in the ice to take the dive I am not sure I can give you the official polar bear pin. Come on over to WI, and you can do it right.

It is great that they raised that much money for a great cause.

I am a big guy and have lots of insulation. And it was actually a very nice day for this time of year...about 50-55 degrees and full sun. There was ice a couple weeks earlier farther up the river.

What boggles my mind is our local Tri-City Fever Cheerleaders don't have nearly the insulation or body mass...except maybe for some with store bought flotation devices. Those little girls are crazy!

Kudos to all of those who participated. Great job of leadership participation, Matt. :clapping:

BUT...I did notice guys wading in the water as "rescue crew" wearing hi-viz jackets, etc. Either they're wearing wet suits or they have "big brass ones"!

Co-rrection Mike, had big brass ones.

Or is it because it's winter and the glare off the white legs would be too much for the general public to deal with? ;)
Hell, couldn't be any worse than Bungie's neon-white, seen-from-the-space-shuttle toothpicks.

And good on ya, Iggy, for helping a good cause. ;)

I took The plunge into a local lake around this time last year. They had to cut a jump area out of the ice, which was about 2' thick. It was the first, and likely the last time :cold:

Anytime you can raise money for a good cause, and have a little fun, is OK by me.

On a PUI Friday night gotta say:

I'd give Iggie 25 bucks for what he dove in for a good cause...

..but I'd give 100 bucks to see WarChild do a belly-flop for the cause - captured by the local press of Ignacio...

(and I mean a true, skin-showin' WarChild nekid from the waist up leap into the river big-belly-flop, huge waave resultant exhibition of deering-do!

... WarBaby, you up to it?

hold me to it, wussie!

..and maybe we can get even more fjrpeeps to join in?

as in ride to your hood and participate?
