While I was reading someone else’s post it gave me the idea to make a list of all the bikes I’ve owned. If I were asked, I’d say I must have had 25 or more over the years. I always thought the number was much higher because was remembering bikes I’ve only ridden or my friend’s bikes and listing them as my own in my memory. So I made a list of bikes in the order I owned them and found I didn’t own so many. It’s a fun exercise. It brought back lots of memories like how much I pestered my dad until he gave me permission to by my first real motorcycle, a YZ80. It was a real piece of crap and I knew it. But, I was so afraid my dad would change his mind about me having a motorcycle I rushed into the deal. I still member the kid’s name that sold it to me. We loaded that muddy POS into the back of our Ford wagon and I sat in the back just to be closer to the bike. I still get a sinking feeling when I remember seeing the oil running out of that thing all over the rear of my dad’s wagon. That bike taught me how to use a wrench and the consequences of a bad decision. I fixed it up. I needed to prove to my dad I wasn’t a total moron by making the bike good again. “So this is what you wanted soo bad?” Yikes, I guess I’m still trying to convince him I’m not a moron. Then there is my 1989 FJ1200. This bike was “the closer”. What a great way to end a date than bring a new girl back to see the bike. If she would go for a ride with me I was set. Making my list was a quick trip of memories. Try it, you’ll see.

Here’s mine:

Honda 50 this one, I hid (I wasn’t aloud to have a motorcycle)

YZ 80 ahhh (if anyone seen Chip Demotina let me know)

XR 100 didn’t see much action

DT 175 first new bike (I was 16 and didn’t realize how scary the riding on the street was)

RD 350 loved the sound. I would do wheelies at school to show off, until I fell off.

YZ 465 scared myself, and loved it

XT 500 the wheelie king

RZ 350 loved the sound part II (a Kenny Roberts special)

SECA 550 got it cheap

FJ 1200 loved it, the only bike I rode passengers on

XR 250 my return to the dirt, great bike! (a good year)

FZR 750 return to the street

YZF R1 return to motorcycles after 7 years off (wife and 2 kids)

FJR 1300 maybe my favorite

1982 Honda Express SR 50 (Great gas mileage, 1 gallon tank)

1982 Suzuki GS450L (Purchased for $500, sold 5 years later for $600)

1997 Honda VF750 Magna (My first new bike)

2005 Yamaha FJR1300 (Photo not required)

Hmmmmm, this brought back some memories.....

My first venture was one of those early mini bike contraptions with a 10 horse Briggs & Stratton edger type motor.

After that I moved up to a Honda Trail 70 (do you remember that ugly beast?

Then I had a Yamaha YZ80. This is the one that made me think I was cool.

I then got a Yamaha DT175 that had been stripped of the lights and turned in to a dirt bike.

Moved on to a Yamaha DT250, another strictly dirt bike.

Once of legal driving age I had a Suzuki GS550 street bike and various four wheelers. Suzuki Quadsport 230, Honda Fourtrax 250R, and then the Suzuki Quadzilla 500.

I also had a Hodaka Wombat (don't remember the cc size) somewhere in that mix.

After graduation and on into college I kept the GS550 til it finally just was too embarassing to ride anymore and I dropped out of the motorcycle world for a very long time. In late 2001 I bought my 2002 Suzuki Katana 750 and learned that I had the bug again and wanted more. After some careful net surfing and old EZ Board reading I decided on the FJR and bought my '05 via the PDP.

And the rest they say ................. is history.

My list is short, too:

196? Honda mini-trail 50 - rode it everywhere around my grandparents small town.

1970 Kawasaki 100 Trail Boss - first manual clutch bike, was a 4 speed I think, but had a switch for dirt (low range) or street (high range) gears.

1977 Kawasaki KE250 dual sport - my only transportation while I was stationed in the Mojave desert for 2 years. I rode it everywhere and rarely ever put ANY oil in the injector tank. I never did figure out how I could foul the plug with zero oil in the injector. Man, I abused that bike - I was 18-19 years old.

2001 Kawasaki KLR650 dual sport - my re-introduction to motorcycling AND the beginning of my divorce!

2005 Yamaha FJR1300 - maybe my last, certainly my best bike.

When I had my Trail Boss, my next-door neighbor had a Hodaka "Combat" Wombat, a 125cc bike IIRC. They may have made a smaller (non-combat?) Wombat, too. This same friend started with a Hodaka 90cc engine on a homemade mini-bike frame.

Yes, you are correct. I've been riding for a mere 7 years. Why? My folks would never let me have one cuz, "...you'll put an eye out with those damn things!" My first wife wouldn't let me have one cuz, "...because I don't need a dead husband and who's gonna pay the mortgage if your dead? Besides, you'll be eating away at my shoe budget and I can't let that happen and you'll put an eye out with those damn things!" My new wife thought my idea about getting bikes instead of wedding rings was a boffo idea, so I went a bit off the edge... Gotta love a women like that!

So you had an XR75? I had severe XR envy when I was 13. The kid from up the street had one. He used to try to kill the thing and it broke my heart. How could this fine machine belong to such a bike bully? He used to ride it down the trail and grab a rope swing and let the bike go to see how far down the trail the XR would go without a rider. The thing must have been made from somekinda alien metal. It couldn't be broken.
