Bill, it'd be fine with me if your trip never ended. The daily reports and pics are a morning treat.

(Noticed you're not too big on salads.

...I think if your determined you might get him to explain his technique for dodging the border patrol. Maybe you have to be Irish!
Oh, that's easy to convince them of that, all you have to do is start calling everybody "Mick", and keep complementing yourself in front of everybody else on the size of your "manhood", jes sayin' and enuf sed! ;)
You know Wheatie, OM-SPU-Chuy might just make a damn fine Irishman out of you yet! I mean, why remain a Dane?

A Dane is simply just a Norwegian with his brains beaten out! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

My Brush with Greatness

So I'm up early because I have to meet up with Dave of Admore Lights. I had broke my connector on the Givi Topbox because my knee has a limiter called old age that won't let me bend it properly and I keep kicking the connector every time I got off the bike until it broke.

I sent Dave and e-mail and in an example of exemplary customer service he offered to have me come over to his house first thing in the morning for some repair work since he keeps some parts at the house.

It was the bulkhead fitting that finally broke...

Anyways, I'm riding along in Calgary rush hour traffic which is about as stupid as Toronto rush hour traffic and I spot another FJR. It looks very familiar with the propeller mounted to the back fender. Sure enough it was it was NAFO Chief Cook & Bottlewasher FJRGuy (Jeff) on his way to work. He looked at me wondering what in the world was I doing in Calgary Rush Hour traffic basically going the wrong way from Toronto. I told him at a stop light that I was headed over to Dave's to get my topbox lights fixed and it was not long after that that Jeff pulled off to head into work. The odds of this chance meeting are so slight that I had better odds odds of finding dry roads in British Columbia.

I was able to find Dave's home and we got to work making the topbox lights right again. we obviously had to replace the broken connector.

He also had some entender cables so we were able to re-locate the plug to the bottom of the case where it will now be out of the way of my clumsy foot...

The connector on the bike side was also not in good shape with the pins on the locking ring being broken. We decided to also change out this part.

Because I was on the road and had ridden over to the house Dave gave me a very fair price on all the parts we had to replace and did not even charge any labour. Customer service like this is almost impossible to find these days and I'm very grateful for the service provided. With the topbox lights now working it was time to point the bike east and start the trek home but I needed a coffee. Time for a round of...

I've never been to a Tim Hortons, looks like I need to get a life.
OK Bugnatr, I'll throw you a softball.

Hint #1 - There is an old retired guy sitting at the corner table...

The Six Shooters should really help - think Calgary Stampede.

Hint #2 - Note the horse on the window of the Timmy's.

Hint #3 - I'm thinking the Chinese New Year / Guns motif is the workings of a confused mind...

Old Michael correctly pointed out that I was not getting enough greens in my diet...

I made a conscious effort to correct this when I stopped for lunch...

This salad was tough to get since I think they save all the green stuff for the cows in Alberta ...

IMG0782-L.jpg

At least I'm pretty sure this is Alberta ..... let me check ....

IMG0784-L.jpg

Yep, no question. This is Alberta.

All the fun riding is mostly behind me now. Here is what lies ahead between here and Kenora...

DSC0008-L.jpg

I stopped in Swift Current, SK and the plan is to head to Brandon, Manitoba and then cross back into the States and head for the U.P. of Michigan and then visit Bust to lay down my $100 deposit for the next Tech Day since according to the Illustrious One, I ride a POS Gen II.

By the way in the monsoon conditions yesterday in the Crowsnest Pass there were no electrical gremlins. The relay under the nose should now be a must do maintenance item. As a bare minimum I would at least pack the relay connector with dielectric grease but for those with rather high mileage I would change it out as a preventative measure.

Tomorrow - More of the Flatlands.

Great report Bill, good eye on the boat anchor.
This ride report would be better if I could get the admins to block BeemerDons from highjacking the thread to promote his manhood.

Bungie is not moving west. The string he has attached to the bike to find his way back runs out at Wawa.

Thanks for the report-in Bill. :)

Great customer service from Admore...I'll be ordering an extender cable to relocate my top case plug too.

Chuy still just cannot believe that Phoenix does not have a Tim Horton's to service the huge Canuckistani ex-patriate community that lives in Arizona for every Winter.

For the six months of Summer the Frostbacks will have Migrated North, but they could just rename it Leticia's Loncheria during that time and serve tacos and tamales!

A Great Ride Report Bill and keep it coming Brother, just remember to not pull a "Bungie" out on the open road!

Just another example of why Sudbury sucks.
Brother Bill, would you kindly consider venturing a thought or two regarding the primary and major reason as to why Sudbury possesses maximum suckage? Inquiring minds want to know!
Don,

To list all the reasons why Sudbury sucks would overload the server and crash the forum. Let's just say that if the main tourist attraction in Sudbury is a big nickel (worth 5 cents) well do I really need to say anymore??

I leave you with a few line from Stompin' Tom Conners...

By the way I could not get online with my computer so the photos from Thursday will have to wait till tonight.

Brother Bill, I know that this is just slightly off topic; but I also know that you have not seen your mail in a number of weeks, here is the latest "artwork" that Bustanut joker has sent to us by mail. Perhaps you may want to work this into your D-Tour Ride Report, consider yourself lucky because the sketch that he sent to HotRodZilla had a full boner! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

Lunch at the Ruby

Now that I have a decent internet connection I can get this back on track before BeemerDons completely ruins this thread.

We left Swift Current, SK and headed east under the 'Living Sky' for a bit until it was time to play another round of...

Hint #3 ( and they don't get any better than this one ) - This guy was waiting in the Drive-Thru...

DSC0009-L.jpg

A little later I angled south off the Trans-Canada to head for the border and travelled kilometer after kilometer of Canadian farm fields...

DSC0021-L.jpg

I soon was in need of gas as I rolled through Dog River in Saskatchewan ....

DSC0024-L.jpg

I pulled into the local Corner Gas Station ...

DSC0029-L.jpg

Lucie wasn't around so I couldn't have lunch at the Ruby...

DSC0025-L.jpg

I did however go into the gas station and picked up an appropriate souvenir for BeemerDons ...

DSC0031-L.jpg

I did have lunch a little further up the road. The special was chicken tenders & a caesar salad ...

IMG0790-L.jpg

Nothing special but it filled the need for fuel. I was trying for Grand Forks but the late start and the time change I wasn't going to make it so when I pulled into Rugby, ND I was ready to hit the hay...

IMG0791-L.jpg

Here was the route for the day...

You Fooker, still on the road, enjoying life while I'm dealing with.... work.

I really sometimes don't like you, you, you little Timmie Horton fooking fiend!

OH, love the Kz1300 shots! Got to download them and look carefully, looks like new modern front forks, hubs, calipers, rotors... Nice!

Ride safe my friend, ride fast.

Sit Here, Twist That

I needed to make to mileage today and it was raining when I left Rugby, ND so it was full rain gear and all the camera gear stored to keep it nice and dry. Even with the loss of an hour as I moved back into Eastern Daylight Savings Time I just crossed back into Michigan in the U.P. (Upper Peninsula). From here I can make it to Casa del Bust if I don't fool around tomorrow by hitting the Mackinaw Strait Bridge and running the slab. I could have stayed in Wisconsin but I had not been drinking all day and therefore was not in a proper frame of mind to relate to the Cheeseheads.

Here was the route under cloudy skies and damp roads, well there were some dry roads and I was able to dodge most of the rain in the area...

After-NAFO-Ironwood-MI-L.png

Tomorrow, Casa del Bust or bust.

On a side note I can further report that the new relay seems to have solved the problem. More wet riding today and still no issues.

For those interested, when I had the Admore Lighting on my Givi topbox fixed here are some of the parts we used.

The extension cables (it is a set of two cables - one for the right side lights and the other for the left) ...

extention-cables-001-L.jpg

This is where I relocated the connector on the case but I now realize this may not be the best spot since when you lay the topbox on a hard surface, the box may be sitting on the connector. I may rethink this or just be careful when I take the topbox off the bike and sit it somewhere ...

connector-001-L.jpg

The connector does work really well while on the bike since there is no way I can kick the connector which is what broke the old connector.

He did swap some parts from his Hybusa and the brakes and suspension were the main upgrade. The pipes were custom built by someone in Australia. The fellow hangs out on the KZ1300 forum but I don't have his handle but he was a local from southern BC. I think it was somewhere near Vernon.
