We have successfully completed Day 1 and I am sitting in Bust's kitchen drinking his beer. I have some stock footage of the Tim Horton's that I stopped at in Ontario on the way to the border because once you seen one Tim Horton's you have seen them all...
I almost made a colossal bunder at the start of this trip. I almost left in the midst of Toronto Rush Hour. I had not yet had my morning coffee when I left the house and was obviously still in a daze to even consider such a thing. Once I got part way through my first coffee and looked at my watch it was apparent that a slight adjustment would be required.
Once across Toronto and out to Milton the traffic actually got sane and the rest of the trip through South-West Ontario was unadventful. I have no pictures of this portion of the trip because there is nothing of note in South-West Ontario except for the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford.
I made Sarnia in good time but when I went into the Duty Free to pick a bottle of decent booze (Fred W please read this as Canadian
RYE Whiskey) I had thoughts of sitting on the bridge at Sarnia for hours. I had never seen the Duty Free that busy but I rolled right across the bridge and pulled straight up beside the Homeland Security Booth. The agent was very cool and wanted to more about the FJR than why I was trying to gain entry into the Land of the Free and the Home of the Well Armed. I barely had enough time to get my passport out before he was handing it back and wishing me a safe journey.
On my way to Owosso I pulled into the Welcome Center since it was the only curve I was likely to see in my entire trip across Michigan. In Pure Michigan fashion they pulled out all the stops...
I almost got lost looking for Bust's place because Don said I should be looking for this sign ...
However I finally found the major metropolis of Owosso...
I was greeted by the guard dogs as I rolled into Casa de Bust...
It was a very enjoyable first day on the road. Toronto traffic was not completely insane and the bridge at Sarnia was not the typical nightmare. It's been a stressful time lately dealing with some dirt bike racing stuff and I needed badly to get away. This day was a great start.
Bust is on his way back from Chicago I'm going to take Miss Bust out to dinner tonight for allowing me to stay. We then have until 11PM to change the locks on the house before Bust shows up.
Here is what SPOT the Wonder Tracker had to stay about the Day...
