Scab
I got nothin' here...
It's Thursday evening here at the homestead. And even though we arrived home late yesterday evening, I wanted to wait till today and actually go see the bike before I posted up. Pics will be following.
This was a rather strange accident. I still cannot definatively say what the cause was. I have travelled up and down this particular stretch of road 'bout a million times, so I am familiar with the road and it's safe/unsafe areas, etc.
Just before "crash-n-burn" time, it started to rain. I backed off a bit on the throttle, tucked in a litte tighter, and proceeded. It was only about another mile to the intersection in question. If it was still raining when I arrived at the store, I would put on the rain gear then.
Up until this point, my memory is clear. My next memory is a very short "flash" of memory where the bike was doing a "fish-tail." It was just a quick little 'blurb' of info with no story beginning or end. Also, I was knocked unconsious during the accident and have absolutely no memory of what actually happened.
Strange things, indeed. The bike itself looks as though it took the brunt of the impact on its' right side. This beotch is broke.
One strange thing to note is that the majority of the damage is on the right side of motorcycle while most of the damage to me was inflicted on the left side. (something like 10 broken ribs, front and rear, left side - punctured lung, left side - broken colar bone, left side - ruptured spleeen - road rash, etc.)
We went back to the scene today and spoke with a lady that saw most of what happened. She stated that I actually slid a great deal farther than did the bike. She also stated that I slid through a sign mounted on 4x4 posts. (which would explain the extra damage on the left side)
As for gear? Wasnt' wearing any, 'cept for helmet and gloves. I had on jeans and a button-down shit. The jeans did very well, and according to my witness, the shirt was ripped from my body very early in the game. Road-rash is at a minimum, though. My helmet was a DOT only version that did a remarkable job. It got chewed-up and my head is fine.
Two weeks later and here we sit. Stiff as a board.
I must say, though, that the people on this board are second to none. This whole ordeal has been nothing but a huge outpouring of concern from this membership. It really puts me at a loss for words. All throughout my hospital stay, I have had forum members there to keep me company and keep my spirits high. The outpouring of gifts, well-wishes, time, phone calls, and even money are very overwhelming. I only hope that one day I can be as good a friend to you all as you have all been to me. Thank you all, very much!
On a side note, I did speak with the insurance company today. They have declared the bike a total. All we have to do now is make arrangements to exchange titles/checks. Then, it's off to find another bike!
