As I was reading about the fires out in CA it once again struck me, as it has during many disasters, who sends help to the USA? Whenever there is a disaster throughout the world the USA is EXPECTED to send help. Whether it be our military to stop a civil war, medical aid for a natural disaster, or just money to help out, we are EXPECTED to help the rest of the world. Then people throughout the world, and here in the USA, constantly refer to us as "Evil" or just the bad guys in general. Pisses me off!

So how much are other countries going to send to help the people who have lost their homes in CA?

I know we are the richest country in the world, and the most powerful, so I can see how we can and probably should give more than other countries, but it sure would be nice if some countries would make even the slightest attempt to give something, anything, back in return.

Maybe some countries do send aid to the USA, but I for one have NEVER heard anything on the news about it. Maybe citizens of the world helping each other doesn't makes for good reporting.

So if you are from outside the USA and you know your country has helped out the USA, speak up. I would like to hear about it. For the rest of you, maybe you should think about what you have given when the time comes that you ask for help.

I agree even if it is only charitable organizations and not the governments (many governments like ours have no legal provision for giving away their citizens money) but I bet that there are some and we do not know about it. I would like to hear about it too.

We have had help in the past:

Foreign Aid for Hurrican Katrina. Don't know about the wildfires.
OK, so that is 1. I especially liked the part about the Cuban doctors. Anybody else know of other times? Seams like the countries that are the quickest to jump in are the NATO countries, which again seems fair since they are the most developed and wealthy. Except Cuba.

Every few years New England gets blasted by storms that are usually fueled by a low pressure cell over the ocean. Canada often sends crews down to help us recover. Canada also sends fire crews to help with wildfires.

*edited to sound less political*

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess, Not Iraq, Iran, or China???

Those people living in those areas are, on average, the top of the food chain. For the most part, they don't need aid. If they don't have insurance to cover their losses, they're just plain stupid. This ain't no Katrina.

Woof on Gunny.

Thanks for the right turn on the thread topic. Since I assume you are at the top of the food chain I will be sure to note your response should you ever ask for help.

Back to our regularly scheduled topic.

Gunny that in NY, Canada sends aid when we get the occasional ice storm.

IIRC, several countries committed to aid for New Orleans. In our arrogance, we refused to accept.

I don't see why the thread should be closed, except for the people who feel the need to add more info than needed.

Again, the question is only who has sent, or offered to send, aid to the US in a time of need. Other than that, please keep your politics to yourself.

I have heard about the help Canada has sent, now that you mention it.

Good morning all.

Your thread aims squarely at governmental policy and is politics. It further incites political discussion which is a board no-no. Thread closed.

If you can't tell the difference...then you should stick exclusively to FJR's and avoid the possibility of political discussion at all.
