This may seem like a silly question...

but why don't you just cancel your reservation to make it available to another attendee?

I am not sure in this case but some group rates when canceled go back to the hotel. No one will know the room has been canceled if he doesn't post and it might not go back to the group depending on how busy they are. This is the best way to let people know there is a room available.

Mike is mostly correct. Due to the high demand and the fact that we are somewhat over our initial block of rooms, it becomes an argument that I would prolly lose with the hotel. This is why we like to 'put them up for grabs' here on the board rather than let the hotel 'handle it'.
