Could someone tell me the thread size on the holders by the fluid reservoir on an 03

Thanks

You mean the left of the clutch reservoir where one could screw in an old-school mirror if we didn't already have them on the fairing? If so, 10mm....standard coarse 1.5mm pitch....I believe.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm mounting a gps and wanted to put it there and was not sure of the size. I am mounting it on the right side, it's nice to have the option.

Thanks again

You may want to reconsider and mount it on the left side. Your left hand is free to mess with the GPS when you need to while your right is generally too busy with the throttle. Not that any of us would be so unsafe as to mess with a GPS while underway...

Isn't the mirror mount on the right side reverse threaded? I'd check that before committing anything to that location.

Edited to add: I've got so much **** stuff mounted on the left side that I had to put my GPS on the right side. It hasn't been a hindrance or problem for me, for the way I use my GPS. YMMV.

You may be right on the reverse thread. But I know I've seen some bikes with ram balls screwed in there. So unless they used a thread adapticator of some kind...

I would either left side mount or stem mount in the middle...never on the right IMHO

I found the left has plenty room

Fred, perhaps the right side mount that you have seen is like this reservoir cover mount from Cycle Gadgets:

Patriot you are the poster child for distracted driving

I already have used the left side for the control for the heated grips. I still might look at mounting in the middle, and I also was thinking the right side could be reverse thread.

OK, I found what I was thinking of. It's in this recent and ongoing thread on GPS mounting (of all things).

It's on squeezer's bike. Lookie:

On close inspection it does appear that there are some sort of adapticators in betweenst the ram ball and the perch's threaded hole. These look strikingly like the ones available from a certain vendor not to be mentioned on this forum. They do not seem to be available in left and right hand threads, so...

RAMification I

RAMification II

RAMification III (reservoir cover with centered ball)

I have the clutch mirror hole ball, and was the envy of many when mine came before others who ordered before I did when it first came out. The '03s have the good fortune of having a mirror hole on the right side as well, but the misfortune of it being left-hand thread, RAM has no M10 reverse-thread part. I think the aforementioned adapticators were used to put an SAE-threaded RAM ball, which has been available since dirt was invented, in the metric-threaded mirror holes. The M10 ball has been out less than two years.

This is what I have mounted to my right side brake reservoir. You remove the two hex head screws that hold the reservoir clamp ring on and screw in the ones with the Techmount bracket. 100% of the OEM brake reservoir parts stay in place. The Techmount comes with two different length spacers so you can control the offset from the handlebar. The actual GPS mounting plate has a ball. The articulated bracket arms mounts to the base with a hex screw, I'll bet some creative person could unscrew the base pivot and find a way to screw in a Ram Ball. It is also possible to cobble a Ram Ball to the end of the main arm using an internally threaded Ball.

If I had it to do over again I would ditch the arms and put a Ram Ball where the base pivot is. Which may be a winter project :) Let the imagineering begin.

What you are looking for, Alan, is a Ram-HB1

This is part of what comes with the Zumo550, the other part being a U bolt so the same mount can be attached to one of the handlebars if so desired. This is what I am using for my radar detector hot plate on the right side. Except I am using the Ubolt instead of the perch bolts. There is just enough room between the right side perch and switch assy for the u-bolt method.

When I first put the Zumo onto my Trophy (while the FJR was getting repaired) I initially moved this same mount over and used the perch bolts/screws because there just isn't quite enough room for the u-bolt on that bike. But I have subsequently bought 2 of the RAM-B-349U, which is the 1 inch ball on a 10mm stud that threads nicely into the mirror holes on the Triumph on both sides. Radar on the right, GPS on the left.

So many options...

I wasn't at the time, but Life 101 has shown me the light. Now that I have some $$$ already invested I will probably go down the modification path. It's fun when so much can go so wrong

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I just got the ram-b-349u m10 x1.25 ram ball for my 2012 gen 2 and the thread only goes in a little before locking up.

Is it possible that Yamaha has changed the thread pitch on the "orphaned" mirror hole on the left side. I've seen threads with it on 2007 soi know it fits on a gen2 just not sure about 2012.

Just don't want to force it in any way. Thanks for any assistance

Did you get your bike used? I wonder if the threads were re-tapped for 'Murican. If not, it should go in fine. That's the right part.
