Throttle Rocker

My 05 came with TR installed. I took it off after the first ride. Opted so far to reduce the throttle spring tension by unwinding the middle spring. It's an easy task to perform and makes the throttle tension just right.

Jury is still out for me and the TR.

Just FYI, 5'10", have bar risers and always wear gloves. I think all the little things add up to produce a need for your particular comfort.

Am also using the velcro TR and leave it on all the time -- have found it REALLY helped with my initial sore wrist / numbness experience. You get used to it fairly quickly, but as others have said - every once in awhile you "accidently" apply too much pressure, and get instant acceleration .

Am curious on the middle spring removal -- is this something that is commonly done? And this provides less throttle "tension"? And no other ill side effects?

Man, do the throttle spring thing. It cuts the tension by approximately 1/3 (leaves 2/3).

I spent all day this past Saturday doing:

Heat shield

Throttle spring tension reduction

Windscreen retract kill

Powerlet outlet

Radar detector install

I would rate each one a "must do" and in that order, top to bottom. I now have a totally different and much improved riding experience!

I totally recommend the old-style Rocker. The one they don't sell anymore because of a patent infringement with one of the other makers of similar gadgets. That other maker doesn't have the same width as the original Rocker (too wide).

As mentioned above, it can be rotated out of the way in a second or so. That's what I usually do when I hit the twisties.

I find it a good combination with the Vista Cruise. There is a need for both, IMO.

...interesting. I've used one the last few years and pretty much relegate it to long drones down Fwy's with little traffic. One bad experience (which others have mentioned over the years, but not in this thread yet) was steaming thru down hill high speed corners and needing to slow down immediately and hard, coming in too hot (my own dumb judgement!) It was like...,when a deer just steps out in the road and startles you and you grab all the brake you dare. The problem was, my hand position (just slightly off the rocker) kept the throttle on as I grabbed front brake. The Rocker rotated ever so slightly against my clenched r. hand and could not freely close. Mind you, this was instantaneous so I didn't reset my hand, think quick enough to pull in clutch and downshift, or even realize the throttle was being held open until it was too late. The quandry resulted in an off road excursion with fence posts and boulders presenting themselves as a challange to maintain upright fwd. momentum and consideration for the continuation of life (or I remembered it to be something like that).

So.... I've never encouraged one to use one, just let them know of some (potential) dangers which may or may not outweigh the comfort/ rest advantage.

Let each decide (judiciously) for themselves. I still carry one in my tank bag... but did a SS1000 without it once I got beyond the first two hours of Fwy..

Not trying to stir controversy here, just add another insight as yet unstated. Some other sites totally demean a rider as a complete "idiot" who uses one (as have a couple MSF instructors). That is not my perspective.

I had a similar experience to yours, but not quite as scary, put the rocker on over the rubber band, was getting on the freeway, decreasing radius turn, 2nd gear nice and smooth like I always do, hit a bump, oh shit, the my hand hit the rocker, and badabing, too much throttle, no danger of high siding, but it got my attention.

I got home, got out a stationary grinder, and trimmed the right side of the rocker, so my hand just barely touches it. I haven't had any problems since. If I hadn't trimmed it, I probably wouldn't be using it today, because it caused me to almost loose it. Enough said. :agent:

I use a Cramp Buster https://www.crampbuster.com/ Model CB1

I never have to move it out of the way for the twisties. I cut it right down the center and now have 2 very narrow Cramp Busters . So narrow that it never gets in the way and still works perfect.

I used a Kuryakin rocker on my Road King. About 1/4 the size of the cramp buster or TR. Maybe this would work a little better for the FJR since it won't be in the way?

I never gave these throttle rocker type gadgets much thought....didn't see a need for them. Just got back from a 2400 mile one week trip. Got to admit....my trip was saved by one of these things. The throttle hand starting taking a real beating early into the journey...was seriously wondering if I could continue to tolerate the situation. Pulled into a dealership and got one of these rocker devices. It SAVED THE DAY. I could not have completed the trip without it. This trip exposed a critical need, however, as far as I'm concerned. I'm getting a cruise control, or at the very least, a Vista Cruise device. You've got to be able to get your hands off that bar.

I really like the Throttle Rocker. It's the best $10 I ever spent on a motorcycle accessory.

That was the first farkle Wonky got - after my ride home, it was very apparant that it was needed.

And for the price - really hard to beat.

Now I just gotta get my Audiovox installed......

I love the throttle rocker..have used it on my last 3 bikes. Don't even bother with the cruise....Fits over the gripp puppies, also.
