No. Never needed to feather the clutch. I just never felt whatever others were complaining about as an issue . . . .

I have to say that I have no idea why people did those mods - I've taken a bit of flack on the FB forum because I've not found the throttle to be an issue on my '06 - never felt the need to drop a loop from the spring; never felt the need to change the throttle cam; never had issues with throttle control at speed in turns.
But that's just me.
I had two reasons to unwind the spring.

The first was that, particularly with one of my pairs of gloves, I had to grip the throttle so hard to hold it open that my hand would ache after a few miles on any open road, even after I improved the friction of the grip.

The second was that, on slow tight turns in particular, using 1st or 2nd, on my '06 it was VERY easy to snatch the throttle, which probably led to my worst FJR "off".

My previous bike was a Triumph Trophy 1200, which had proper carburettors that always gave smooth off/on throttle transition, but even so I often feathered the clutch a bit manoeuvring on gravel or mud. It also needed much less force to hold the throttle open than the FJR.

My '10 is much better than the '06 when rolling on the throttle, but still needs considerable care when opening up on a slippery surface, and still my hand ached holding the throttle open for a while, even with my grip improver. So I did the unwind on my '10, which, for me, definitely helps.

Ok, I'm not a particularly skilled rider, certainly not very strong, and getting weaker as the years roll by.

But little tricks like the throttle spring unwind enable me to continue to enjoy motorcycling into my 72nd year of living my life, and I don't want to stop.
