Over the past several months I,ve noticed my throttlemeister beginning to "loosen its grip" to the point that its now not holding at all, even with the bar end totally extended/screwed out can anyone suggest what I should do to readjust it? I had it installed originally by the shop I use but would rather adjust it back myself if not too dificult

Any suggestions? thanks

Before you try a shim pack, the anchor inside the bar may have slipped. This is based on your description that the Throttlemeister used to work and now doesn't. Try this. Get the proper size allen wrench and loosen and remove the bolt holding the weight and slider in place. For your own sanity, keep the slider inside the weight so you don't lose their orientation. Now, screw just the bolt back into the anchor - half a dozen to eight turns should do it. Get yourself a hammer or wooden mallet and tap the head of the bolt directly into the bar end (don't worry - there's a collar inside the bar that keeps it from going too far). Try to see if you can see or feel the bolt move in a little. If you use a hammer, hold a piece of scrap wood over the end of the bolt so you don't booger it up. Now pull the bolt back out and reassemble the whole thing and tighten it up. If the anchor slipped, you should be good to go.

Alternatively, before you do any of the above, have a good look at the friction ring that inserts over the bar end, under the grip. Make sure it appears to be square and and snugged up to the bar end.

Dan

Edit: You know, I was thinking about it some more and you don't have to totally remove the weight. Unscrew the bolt enough so that you can tap on it without hitting the bar end weight and then fasten it back up to see what you have. If it turns out you need to check the friction collar, you should remove the bar end to get a good look at it. Let us know how you do.

I suggest removing the bar end and inserting the stainless tube that came with it that was used to remove the OEM inserts. Line it up and give it a few gentle taps with a dead blow hammer. This is the method I used to fine tune my install originally.

And don't forget to let the loctite set before you fiddle with it.

Way to make something hard than it needs to be guys.

Just get a rubber hammer and tap the barend. Tap it in until it holds again. What are you guys a bunch of engineers?

just came inside after removing the moveable bar end and whacking the inside the bar piece three times with a rubber mallet

presto...back to original effectiveness...tightened the bolt with allen wrench pretty tight (no locktite) and I'm good to go

I find the unit gets out of adjustment about once a year, but I ride a whole lot so probably the usual is much less often

hope this helps and let us know

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

OOPS !!!! not so fast! I followed your suggestion and it held perfectly for a few days. I then had to take the bike to the dealer for a recall notice. After performing the recall maintenance they put the bike out in the sun where it sat for several hours before I picked it up. After picking it up the problem came back with no hold. Will try banging the bar end again but I think it gave way while sitting out in the hot sun will try again
