Is this tire better or worse than a Roadsmart rear? I've seen lots of posts about the front BT-021 being unacceptable but I haven't seen any specific bad comments about the rear.

Most will say front sucks a@@, but the rear is good. I haven't used a Roadsmart, but I'd say the rear is about the same as my Avon Azzaro (7000 miles).

Just my thoughts,

Dave

I had BT021's on my ST1300..... front wore out on the sides too quickly, and was a bit noisier than I liked. The rear was just fine and a decent tire in my books.

+1

front sucks. back is good; longevity and great wet stick.

The rears are fine. Got 7-9k out of a couple of them. It's a dual comopound tire, so the rear looks a little deceptive for the last 3k or so. You're sure it's going to be gone in 1k, and 1k later it looks the same. Just does that for the last 3k or so. Much better than the rear RoadSmart.

The fronts do completely suck.

For comparison sake: Rear tires on near identical conditions

bt020..... 8-10k

bt021..... 10-12k

pr 2 ...... 15-16k

All tires wear evenly and stick well. Prices on pr2 have apparently come down recently according to my Yamaha dealer. They have been selling them for 155.00 installed free. They have since changed to 20.00 install fee but still good deal. pr2 has to be the best tire going.

I've run (4) Bt-021 rears, as well as RoadSmarts and PR2s in the past. I tend to ride hard, averaging 4k per rear tire.

RoadSmart: Stickier, better wet-traction, worse life (3 - 3.5k)

Bt-021: Less grip, especially when cold, worse wet traction, better life (4.5k usually)

PR2: Far worse grip, Far better life (6k), Just not worth it, for me. It's really a Touring tire, not a Sport-Touring tire.

Metz Z6: Handles like a drunken pig. Long-ish life. Also not worth it, to me.

Shinko 005: I should've known better. Don't bother.

FWIW, I'm very impressed by my first ContiMotion. If lifespan is adequet, I may not switch again.

I like the rear BT 021s just fine. Got nearly 10K out of the first and just put on a new one, and I ride two-up most of the time. Thing I liked the best was very little tendency to square off. Even when it got upwards of 8K, still relatively even wear pattern.

Front BT was worse than worthless. Go figure...

I replaced the front with an Avon Storm. Doin' great so far. 4K and it still looks new.

I think both have great gripe both wet and dry.
