Ouch!

Had it in the parking lot on a day when there were thunderstorms in the forecast. Usually, it's parked with about 10 Harleys, but on this day I was the only one in the motorcycle lot.

About 11:00 am a huge thunderstorm rolled through. The security guard said the flagpole was bent, the trees were shaking and the rain was coming down sideways. The guard shack is just across the driveway from the motorcycle lot.

My bike was parked facing east on its sidestand, and the wind came from the north. It blew my FJR1300 on its right side. Since I had the frame sliders on, the only damage was to the right saddlebag, but man did the pavement scrape it. Tore the paint to shreds on the bag and ground up the reflector, too.

Maybe those Harley riders are smarter for being in their pickup trucks that day.

ARRGGH!

Lesson learned? I have no idea. Not sure the centerstand would be any better.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I always worry about my bike blowing over in a stiff wind - all that tupperware makes a nice sail.

Centerstand might have been a better choice. Might not have helped, either.

Hindsight 20/20 huh?

If the wind was more-or-less blowing consistantly (in one general direction), then yes, you should have put the bike on the centerstand with the nose pointed *directly* into the wind. The latter is key.

Obviously, it the wind was blowing all around and not coming from a sole direction, that's a different story.

Definitely the centerstand.

It might have gone over anyways, but it is much more secure on the centerstand.

Those side-cases make great tip-over guards, don't they? Do you already know about Duplicolor Stellar Blue touch-up paint?

Can you explain? I have some nicks is my paint from some loose chip seal. Is this an automotive paint that matches up well to the cobalt blue. Maybe an Autozone, Schucks, Napa product? I just have a couple small spots I would like to touch up.

Stellar Blue Pearl is a Toyota paint color and an excellent match for the Galaxy Blue '05. I just checked ColorRite.com for you, looks like they have touch-up paint available for both '06 colors.

Sounds like a comprehensive claim to me. Low ded. usually and seldom a penalty for a claim, unlike collision claims. Mother nature is beyond your ability to predict or control. At least talk to your agent.

Bummer!!! I only use the side stand for gassing up and nature calls. The rest of the time, she up on her centerstand.

It may or maynot have made a difference. (sound like you had "rotation" near by.) :fie:

:( sorry to hear that happened to you, I have a bad habit lately of driving this what ever the weather is.only using the kick stand.

We do not have the lot especially for bikes, Are you able to park in the cage lot? if so they block a lot of wind.

Note to self :p Windy days need to be on center stand or just drive the truck!

Hey the tent pole thing sounds like a winner, except when the security folks ask me if I am paying to fix it! :p

Argh! One of my worst fears!

Luckily where I work we have big storage buildings I can hide my bike in when the weather turns foul and we typically have pretty advanced notice of impending storms.
