Hi Folks:

Great forum!! I have a '05 with 13.5K. I've recently noticed a faint 'ticking sound' that is best described as a deck of cards being strummed by spokes. It seems to be most noticable around 3K rpm with light throttle input. It doesn't seem to be apparent at idle, nor on the superslab. The noise can be heard prior to the bike fully warmed, as well as after it is warmed. It doesnt' seem to get better or worst with temperature.

Does this sound like normal clatter of the Genesis motor, or the early stages of the 'Tick'?

Thanks,

-Ken

Thanks for the input and link. I'll try the screwdriver trick. Upon reading the thread on the other forum, it sounds like others are experiencing the same noise... that faint noise which started around 4K and gotten louder by 13K. It doesn't sound like the 'tick', but more like normal lifter noise (I'm hoping).

Update:

The ticking is now audiable at idle. It used to only happen while riding, and only around 3800 rpm. Having it happen at idle certainly makes it a lot easier to perform the stethoscope test.

Using a wooden dowel, I've confirmed that the noise is most audiable on headers 1 and 2. Both seem to be indentical in character and volume. However, headers 3 and 4 were very quiet.

sounding more and more like a ticker.

WC has a sound bit of the tick somewhere and you know if it ticks it will be loud! and very obvious. General lifter noise can be heard from time to time which is faint and is dependent on atmospheric conditions etc.

I can't say whether you have a ticker or not, but I wouldn't work to try and hear it - if you have a problem, it will become very apparent over time, and in the meantime, why worry about it?

Plus if you have YES then you'll be covered for a while.

I was concerned about it because at the time of my first post, I did not have the Y.E.S., and my one year warranty was within days of expiring. I now have the Y.E.S. and I am no longer worried. ;)
