Time to buy my first FJR. I need some advice though.

I'm also a little concerned about driving a 2009 off the lot and having a bunch of depreciating right off the bat. I'm not so certain $12k is a great deal for a 2009.
I've gotta say, you asked for advice, but you don't really seem to want it. Too bad you're not open to the suggestions you've had about buying used. You worry about depreciation, and you should--whatever new bike you buy. Once you get out of the parking lot, you're riding a used bike anyway. I suspect you really don't know how sweet a few year old FJR really is. But hey, somebody's gotta buy the new ones, or there wouldn't be any used ones at all..... ;)

But anyhow, yeah, I agree the prices you've been given seem high. Don't know what the rules might be to come south and buy from an American dealer and get it back up to Canada, but I bet you could find a better price if you did that. The exchange rate is right at par now. Good luck.

Not that I want to agree with SkooterG but.... I agree here. A motorcycle is a passion or want, Vs a need. It's great to get the best price etc, but it really comes down to, how bad you want it.

If you can afford it and you plan on keeping it for some time there is nothing wrong with new. If you're more price conscious, go used and do your best.

Good luck. ;)

I appreciate all the advice I've gotten here. But I also said from the beginning that I was getting ready to buy new. Not used. So how am I not open to suggestions? I never asked for advice on new vs used. I made that decision up months ago. What I'm uncertain about is price for a new 2009 or 2010.

This post showed me the dealer I was talking to was too high. It also helped me to find the bike I want somewhere else. That was a very nice Christmas gift.

There's some good advice for buying used, butt I gotta say when I bought mine I went new too. So really you just need to find a better dealer. Your dealer is high; I paid 12.2K + fees back in '09, so that one they got should be lower.

Black is growing on me; as they say, black is beautiful!
