Well the rain is heading in again today. Been wet and crappy the past week. Going to ride down to my Triumph dealer and see if they got any Tigers in. Like it but don't think it's going to work out as a two up bike from what I have been reading.

Will then head over to local Yamaha dealer and see if he has any FJR's on the floor. Will get my buddy to go to fend of the salesman. Don't know if I could ever buy a bike from these guys. There a PITA. They ring a dam bell everytime they sell a bike, it's like a used car lot with 20 salesman cruising the floor.

Anyway sat up last night reading old post about the FJR and got answer to my questions. Time to go really take a look at one. Am looking primarily for a 2 up bike so me and the wife can do some long weekend trips. May head up to No. Ga or NC once in awhile from Tampa. Also been looking at the BMW R1200RT and may wait for the new Kawasaki to come out. In no rush. Do really like the look of the FJR and the price compared to the BMW.

What dealer are you going to here in Tampa? I've been to a few of the local Yammie dealers, so far I like Barney's in Brandon. The fjr is a great 2 up SPORTY bike! Let me know if you want to take a look at my '05 (you are in Tampa right?)

Go look at your local dealer but buy where you get the best price. Unlike we in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, YOU can purchase out-of-state, so your buying sphere is rather large.

IN a word, D&H Cycle, Cullman, AL. The only issue you will have is, as a FL resident, you must purchase the Y.E.S. (extended warranty) from a source within FL.

Hi Paul,

I test rode the 1200RT before I bought my FJR. The RT is a nice machine, with lots of nicely engineered things that are impressive, like the tank plastic that allows for a tank bag to be firmly mounted without scratching the tank (although some people think the plastic looks out of place). I ended up buying my FJR because: 1) Price 2) Reputed poor BMW service 3) Motor - Loved the FJR motor, didn't like the feel of the flat twin 4) RT extra plastic for weather protection was not that big of a deal for me 5) Liked FJR handling better 6) Optional parts/pieces (Farkles) don't seem to be gold plated 7) FJR burns regular gas just fine 8) etc etc

There were lots of little things but you get the idea... Not meant to be a Beemer slam, just why I bought the FJR. Even after a Russell seat & all the other farkles I'm still thousands ahead. YMMV, no connection to Yamaha or any dealer, etc

Just got back from Yamaha dealer. The FJR is a nice bike.

Actually in St Pete. Went to Barneys here locally. Was down at St Pete Triumph store and talking with a guy that said he bought several bikes from a Yamaha Dealer in North Tampa. Actually had owned a couple diff FJR's and liked the bike. Can't remember the dealer name now, know it wasn't Barneys. The salesman at Barney's St Pete really didn't know crap about the bike. I know they sell a lot of different brands but if you don't know the answer to my question don't try and BS me.

BMW 1200RT vs FJR. Price is a factor. No doubt can buy a bunch of extras with price savings including an extended warranty.

Will have to take the wife down to see the FJR when she gets back in town. I didn't ask dealer about a test ride but will have to ride the FJR before making final decision. Sitting on the bike my knees felt a little high. (6 - 2 34" inseam) but the seat was in lowered position. An inch higher would probably make a big difference.

I just went through this with my wife - FJR was at the top of the comfort list. Bags are a little smaller - but they don't cut into her calves. I will have to get a bigger window to increase the size of the "pocket" other than the the FJR is great.

Welcome to the forum. The FJR is a great bike! You will probably like the seat in the up position for your height, I am 6ft. and ended up using the lower position. The upper felt better on the knees, but lower feels better overall. That said, I dont find it comfortable on long distances and will go custom eventually. Seat comfort is highly subjective, like handlebar height and setback, and all ergo issues can be solved via the aftermarket.

You probably wont get a test ride unless you;ve got a good relationship already with a dealer. Wish I had known about D&H in Alabama before I plunked down my money. They are 10 hrs. from you and will save you substantial jing. Check the dealer feedback section.

Also, gitter-dan on this forum is in the insurance business and researched the Y.E.S. issue and found you can purchase it anywhere(D&H again). Just another myth put out by the Fla. dealers.

just been trying to buy YES ins. for my used bike, seems that if you live in Florida, you have to buy it here, UNLESS you by it when you buy the bike, then you can buy it wherever you buy the bike

Go to Nokomis for Action Yamaha and see Jimmy. Their prices cannot be beat and they do not charge prep and all that garbage. He is knowledgeable and honest. I bought my fjr from them and have it serviced there and they do a great job. Any other concerns fell free to pm me. I am in Bradenton, Everett ps the fjr is by far the best choice, value etc.

+1 on D&H A great buying experience and it gives you the oportunity to get a great first ride in! :yahoo: I bought my 06 there last May and had a great time riding it back to Rhode Island.

Must be Cahills Yamaha on Armenia.

I posted awhile back when I was looking at bikes about a dealership over on that side of the bay that refused to let me test ride a used fjr. If you have issues riding it, let me know. I'm 6'2" also, my seat is not adjustable however...

Also, do you definitely want new? I've seen a few farkled out FJRs for sale in the area for reasonable prices.

I am in no hurry at this point, am in process of changing jobs hopefully by late summer. Would consider looking at used if in good shape and price is right (isn't that always the issue).

Wife is not thrilled with color of 2007 model. So.......may have to go used or wait till 08

Welcome to the nuthouse.

When the seat's in the high position it's much more comfy. I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam and find the high position fine. I have installed MCL's peg lowering brackets and they make a big difference but haven't had a chance to try them out in the twisties.

A used, well maintained, farkled FJR can be an excellent deal too. They do run hotter than the 06-7s but there are plenty of "heat mods" that have been developed to address this issue.

Oh what ever you do my friend, DO NOT go down to look at the FJR! For if you do you will require multiple surgeries to remove that permanent smile off your face and your wallet might also require some special attention. Don't say I didn't warn you! I am still recovering myself and the only therapy that has worked so far is to ride this beast. Believe you me it IS a vicious circle. PM. <>< :nono:
