See post #7. Exskibum got it right. A 190 size tire does not belong on a 5.5 inch wheel. A 190 size tire is meant for a 6 inch wheel. A 5.5 inch wheel is meant to use a 180 size tire. But run whatever you like. And some thought taking one turn off of the middle of THREE throttle return springs was dangerous...

I modify every vehicle I buy. Well, expect for the wife's Nissan 4x4 Frontier. She won't let me do anything to that. And I found an awesome Magnaflow cat-back exhaust for it.

Anyway, running a 190 size tire on a wheel a bit too small is probably OK. Probably. If you don't push it too hard. Not a mod I'll be making. I'd rather find a trick six-inch wheel for the FJR, and run a 190 profile on that. Except for the cost. Lot of bucks for those trick wheels. If you can even find one for the FJR.

I run a 190 Road Attack on my FJR (some here don't like 'em). I heard all the reasons why NOT to go to a 190 so I tried a 180 at the Dragon last year. The rear tire felt a little greasy powering out of the corners, like it was slightly broad siding the turn, went back to a 190 and don't have that. Sooo, I like the 190's on the rear.

I guess one needs to ask...Is that deminsion from outside to outside or inside to inside rim measurement? As stated in another thread, I've seen MANY sportbikes with 190 rear tires that have a 6" (Outside to Outside) rim. Our FJR's also have a 6" Outside to Outside rim. Even if the rim was smaller, that only means the tire would become a fraction of an inch taller. The upside of a taller tire is that it would provide more rubber on the road during leans as the tire becomes more triangular in shape. This in turn would also provide for quicker turn-ins.

At least this is what I've been told, seen and have read from others who have done this. Not to mention that it also seems very logical to me.

FJR has a 5.5 in rear wheel. I never got out the calipers, but, if you measured 6" outside to outside, then I'm guessing it's inside lip to inside lip.
