Ok, Here it is. The tire markings of a Pilot Road 2 B.

The tire feels very stiff compared to the standard PR2

Thanks for the pics. Answers my question.

I think Michelin tire selection web page could be improved - it recommend both 'B' and regular PR2 for the feej. When I click on more info under each I get the exact same message, no discussion of the differences/enhancements between them. :glare:

Hycle,

Thanks for those Wonderful elusive Shots of the Stiffer PR2. This helps alot and appreciate your assistance...now good luck getting them on!

So then, what's the difference between a PR2 Road and PR2 Power? One of my sets is marked as 'Power'?

Cant say for sure, but I did have a PP2CT on the front............it was Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Was awesome when I put it on........but it was VERY short lived. After about 1-2K it went sour for me on trip to NAFO and I had to change it out in Denver before I could return home...CUUUUUUUP'D would make a 020 jealous...no more PP2CT's for me. My guess is that it's not really meant for the weight of the FJR and maybe more for light weight sport bikes....just a guess though.

The CT's are definitly different, IIRC, this has been discussed elsewhere. But what's the difference between the PR2's and the PR2B's? More chords=stiffer sidewalls?

Do we need to get Ashes calibrated ass to test each of them?

Hello,

For everyone concerned about differences between PR2 and PR2B I can say that although B is stiffer, for sure PR2 standard version is reinforced enough for two-up riding and luggage. Although I have not tested both of them, I made a comparison between PR2 and Pilot Power 2CT. Although PP2CT is a very soft tyre (including sidewalls), in my case it was ok for a vacation of 4000 miles with pillion and about 50kgs luggage from load point of view.

Thus, comparing PP2CT with PR2 I can say that PR2 is much stiffer than PP2CT and I am sure that it can handle quite well a fully loaded FJR.

I don't think the B everyone is referring to is a load range designator, it's simply a model designator. The PR2B is a different carcass tire from the PR2. It doesn't mean it's load range B.

Hello all,

After reading this thread I did learn quite a few things - BUT...

I need to get tires ASAP. I am planning on ordering Michelin Pilot Road 2's with the "B" ply designation. That said, I became confused. Did all agree that the PR2's are THE tire to use for both wet/dry grip AND mileage regardless of the number of plys used? And yes, I did do a search on tires. I came away with the thought that forum members like the Avon AV's, the Michelin Pilot Road's, and the Michelin Pilot Road 2's. NOT Bridgestones though.

I am about 190lbs., ride 99.99% of the time one up (unloaded), and ride in a "sporting manner' - i.e. more carrying speed into corners than marathon sessions straight up on a high mileage trip.

Thanks!

In your search, you should've also found that all those tire threads were in the "Never-Ending Pointless Recurring Threads" forum. There is no right answer, get the tire you want. Try it out. If you don't like it, try another tire next time.

I just installed new PR2's with the "B" version for the rear. They are a little more expense. You will most likely have to have the dealer order them.

Thank you for the reply. So we are agreed though? Michelin PR2's with the "B" ply rating. Expense - OK. Another set of tires that "cup" - NOT OK. Agreed?

You don't need the "B" .

Motorcyclesuperstore or Jakewilson seem to have the best online prices. I buy online and the local shop charges $50 if I r&r the wheels.

They will last according to your right wrist.

I wish I had read this thread yesterday. I bought an 08' FJR two days ago and joined this forum yesterday. I found on this forum, and elsewhere, that the Pilot Road 2 was a good choice so I ordered them for front and rear. When I was purchasing them online at Motorcycle Superstore, I saw they had a rear PR2 and a PR2B. Confused by the "B", as I had never heard about them, I ordered the regular one. I wish I had ordered the "B", but I know I will be fine with what I ordered as it is sufficient and a great tire even without the extra ply. FYI: The Pilot "Power" is a softe compound for more stick. Now I just need to get used to riding a sport bike because my back and shoulders are killing me. I am already thinking of raising the bars, but I need to do some research into the handling characteristics.
