Well, I took my bike into the dealer today to get the ignition fixed.Hopefully it goes ok. But i was going to get a set of tires put on (PR2's). Their discounted price W/my 20% was 389.00 with 180.00 labor.

So i got a set from swmt the link in the bin o facs 259.00 free shipping. Ill take the wheels of my self.

Ill call around today to get a price on mounting. Any forum members in Ct mounting tires?

WOW...They tried to give you a serious shafting.....

You got a great deal from SWMoto...I paid 297 with free shipping about 2 weeks ago for a set of PR2s

There was a thread about a group buy on PR2s I think they were 275 shipped but I didn't see that until it was too late.

I need to take mine off this week and get the new ones mounted....I have a really small local shop that does it for 25.00 a tire if I take the wheels in.

Actually, that sounds about par for tires, though the $180 labor is pretty questionable.

I really want to know how SWMT manages to get the pricing that they do.

I had a set of RoadSmarts mounted by a local Kawasaki dealer that I'd bought from SWMT. I was chatting with the owner and getting the "support your local shops" and "let us quote the tires the next time" talk. We looked up how much SWMT was selling those tires for and it turned out I was buying them for less than it cost the Kawasaki shop to get them from their supplier. Same deal with a set of Bridgestones I put on the BMW I sold. I'll support my local businesses, but not when we're talking $150 difference on a pair of tires once they add in their profit margin.

well i found a local shop in ansonia ct that will mount while i wait for 35.00@. I told him that ill also buy some valve stems from them when i come in. with the money i saved im going to try a cee baily stock width +2w/flip. dont like the vstream any more. I tried to support my Dealer. Had they put them on for the 400.00 it would have been done. The service manager was like "I hope you dont have any Quality issues w/the tires" but even if i had issues with the ones they put on i would still have to fight with them to correct the problem. ill take my chances. If there where any issues with the tires from swmt im sure would have read about them. and there woudnt be a link on the site. Dean :)

One word: Quantity....(when you buy by the truck-load, you can get a lower price).

SWMT -- tires are their only business (or was -- they've recently changed owners...?). There have been times when Blaine (previous owner) bought-up every tire of a certain brand/size -- so, everyone/anyone had to source it from SWMT.

There may be an argument made for service? Your local dealer usually has very good arrangements with his parts distributor/s. In the rare case that there's an issue/problem -- the combination of dealer & distributor can really be an asset for solving same.

One hint is to look for the majority brand in the dealers in-stock inventory (tire rack) -- that'll probably indicate a good working relationship with a distributor (and, maybe?, even a little lower pricing, too?).
