Ummm, that would be 8400 / 2 = 4200 miles per set.
If he's ready for his third set that means he's run through 2...
Fred: Your math and problem solving skills are strong. I'm ready for set #3. I am currently running Mich Pilot Road (not 2) and I flat spotted the rear on a recent ride through Nevada. They're still good for some more, but I've never really liked how they handled since I got them. The 021's felt way more sticky.

And BTW, I keep 'em right at 40/40 and always ride alone. So yeah around 4200 on each set.

*Snaps finger, waves hand, glares* Now look bee-otch, I had me thome o' them Bridthethtone BT-021 rearth on my bike, got ten or 11 thousand mileth on them, but thtill, two hunnerd dollahth ever few monthth (!) ith pretty damn gay, if you athk me. And I know you didn't, but I'm gonna tell you anyway!Be-otch! :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :D

Nevah had the front 021, have alwayth kept to the Diablo Thtrada like wuth on it from the original owner, but I heah the -021 front ith not worth thee-it!

I was on a dealer's salesfloor a while back talking with the salesdude -- pretty much sportbike (R1) talk (that's what he was in to). We were standing near the non-current FJR they had on the floor. He said that at a recent dealer get-together put on by Yamaha at a track all the young salesdudes were all out riding the sportbikes -- until, someone took an FJR out on the track. Then they all wanted to try that bike, too. He said, at the end of the day the FJR's tires were absolutely shot.

In a similar vein: at the recent AMA Mile in AZ the winning Ducati 1098 Hypermotard completely used-up its tires on the hard dirt surface that day -- maybe only a few hundred miles on them...?

I don't know about the Angels, but the Roadsmarts I'm not a fan of.
It really depends on what you want, better grip or longer mileage tires. I like Michelin's for both, the Pilot Power is an awesome tire but will wear rapidly on the heavy FeeJ. The Pilot Road2 is a great tire for mileage the grip could be better, but hey, you can't have it all. Also I like Dunlop's that are more grippy. The mileage tire, Roadsmart, I don't like at all. Well, it was great for the first couple thousand miles, then it went away.

I do like the Michelin PR2's on sale at Derbycycle.net for about $236 OTD, includes the free shipping.
I agree on not being a fan on Roadsmarts :angry2:

Had one set on my St1300. Very odd wear patterns, followed road groves like they were made for each other and handled very poorly once I hit about 1000 miles. Never again. They were awful. I will either on my FJR go back to Z-6 "C" carcass or try the new Angel.

As has been said many times, the front Roadsmart tire is the problem child. The back ones work quite well on the FJR when paired with some other brand tire on the front, like a Pirelli Strada.

There is no reason in the world you have to put the same brand tire on front and rear. Just make sure the tire on front is as sticky (or stickier) than the back one.

I've got 12,000 miles on the ODO and I'm putting a new PR2 on the back today. This will be the third rear tire on this bike. Previous owner replaced OEM rubber around 5,000 miles if memory serves me correctly with PR2's.

What is everybody getting for mileage out of the front PR2?

I just took a MSF Military Sportbike course on base yesterday and was eating up the exercises while all the dorks on their "sportbikes" stood in awe wondering how a guy on a "cruiser" was tearing it up like that.

Several comments "man you are throwing that thing around" and "you look really smooth out there"

Definately made my day to show those younger / inexperienced riders what a real sport touring bike with good rubber can do.

So I vote +100 for PR2's. Great tires and that's what I'll be sticking with.
