what could be the reason or reasons why we do not get 50,000 miles out of a set of tires? is sit because of seasonal riding and the profit to loss on money? or power to weight ratio transfer to the tire? or we need tires that will do the job for the kind of riding that is required to keep us upright and safe. I say all of them but the first reason money being the main. what do you think? B) :alien:

Because in order to be sufficiently sticky to keep ahold of the road, they have to be soft, so they wear quicker.

Has anyone else noticed significantly lower mileage on the tires if the bike is always ridden two up?
No question about it, riding two up will significantly affect your tire mileage, cutting it 50% or more easily. When my wife was riding with me a lot on my '87 GL1200, I was only getting about 9,000-12,000 miles out of the Metzeler ML2 touring bike tires. When she stopped riding with me because of a back injury, I got 21,000 miles out of the last set of Metzeler ML2's.

How do you like the Avons so far?

Anyone else can chime in too. I just ordered the Avons...the Bridgestones lasted me only slightly over 5k miles before I ordered new...they are worn so the tread wear indicator is smooth with the tread....the front left side is cupping...time for new ones. I am also ordering a fork brace to try to prevent cupping. If handling is better too (as I read it is) so much the better...although I have been really happy with the FJR's handling already.
I put Avons on at the beginning of the riding season, just changed my rear tire with approx. 11,200 miles on it and prolly could have gone another 300 or more. Front is still looking fairly good, might get another 1,000 out of it. I loved these tires from the moment I put them on and it's the best mileage I've gotten with any tire on any of my bikes. Tried some Dunlops before the Avons and absolutely hated them and only got 6,000 miles out of them, was never so glad to see a tire wear out. JB
