With the aquisition of my new toy, I need a new rear put on it.

It came with GP tires (Dunlop Sportmax GP), of which I think are well beyond my capabilities at this time. I was going to replace it with a good track tire, just not GP.

After browsing SW Moto I am finding this tire to be an odd size. a 190/55.

I can find 190/ 50 or 60 and even a 180/ 55, but not the 190/55 without a $314 pricetag.

given the former racers here and knowledge pool. of the 3 choices above which size should I use a the closest replacement?

I'll bet money it came factory with 180/55's. Not that that means anything regarding what you should put on there to run track days, but I'm jus' sayin'. Besides, it's a number that'll open a lot more doors of choice.

There is very little to be gained by going to a larger tire. In some cases a larger tire will only flex more and create handling problems. If you change aspect ratio be careful , you will affect the roll characteristics and this will make it harder to transition from one direction to another. The fjr is a great street bike but a little on the porky side to go flat out on a race track, so please be carefuland have fun. Racer 157

Racer,

I think you missed the question.

This is on a Gsx-R not FJR.

Scab you are prob right about the 180 being the stock tire. I was just looking to replace what this bike has been set up to run on.

you aren't going to be going for any lap records or race wins right away, so, go with a race compound tire or track day tire (i.e. Dunlop Qualifier, Metzeler Sportec M3) in a 180/55 that you can find for a decent price

Most of the folks I've met that have dedicated track bikes all run 180/55 tires, even if stock they came with a 190/50.
