tire wear?

since you're considering an FJR I'd guess that tire wear / costs are in your figuring now.

Some of the Iron Butt riders have reportedly used the Metzler 880 touring tire for their non-stop long distance ride competitions,

but wouldn't lean the bike over far enough to 'scrape pegs,' so that might long wearing tire fit your non-aggressive commuting style, too.

Bulldog: I see you're concerned about tire mileage? I've got about 11,000 on the Exalto thus far. It's got about 80 percent of it's original tread left. My humble opinion: it handles just great, I can't even tell it's back there... until it rains. Then it's SUPERIOR to any mc tire. I'm guessing it'll run 35k miles or more. Check out the darkside thread. I'm SOOO glad I did.
