Last set of PR 2's got about 6100 miles on the rear, and 9200 miles on the front. Now running ContiMotions, which I'm sure will get much reduced mileage, but I've got my own No Mar Tire Changer, so what the heck!!
Every single response that was over 10000 miles is from a rider from Florida. JSNSDon't know HOW you get so many miles out of a rear tire......I've never got more than 5,000 miles out of ANY rear tire on ANY bike I've ever owned.I got 14k on my front PR2, probably coulda got a couple thou more, but the tread was gettin' kinda thin. The rear is still going strong at 23k... looks like another 12-15k on it at least.

Usually I get about 4,000 out of a sport touring tire, if it's a more sticky sport tire I get about 2,500.
Tom, not true. Go ask SkooterG what kind of mileage he gets in Arizona. He makes the 14k miles I get on a PR2 front look like a fool's bet.Every single response that was over 10000 miles is from a rider from Florida. JSNS

Option 3: change the tyre before the long trip, keep the part-worn one, re-mount it when the "new" tyre is worn out. I arranged this with my tyre supplier so he wouldn't hold me to ransom on the re-mount....Well, it matters to me because I've got a 4000 mile trip coming up in June. I bought the bike March 2nd, and I've put 1500 miles on it. Doing the math, it appears that if I keep this up I may not have enough tire left by then to make the trip.
So, I either:
I think I like option one better
- ride the wheels off the thing and replace the tires before the trip, or
- I park it and ride the ZRX 'til then.

But your point is well taken. YMMV
I mount my own, so that could very well be an option if it's got enough miles in it to be worthwhile. Something else that a friend suggested is to use the take offs on my ZRX. The ZRX rear is a 170, but a lot of people run 180s on them. I don't generally like to run oversize tires, but it'd be worth a try.Option 3: change the tyre before the long trip, keep the part-worn one, re-mount it when the "new" tyre is worn out. Now that is darn funny and not a cuss word was uttered.Dear Abby
I hope you can help me with a serious problem---
My friends are wearing out motorcycle tires in the middle but mine wear out on the sides...
Please tell me what I am doing wrong or have the dealers been selling me their bad tires..
Come to think about it; years ago I bought a new harley davidson motorcycle and the tires never wore out but it did spend a lot of time in the shop.

Thank You Abby ... Hey Clovis,I replace mine as needed. Typically this is every 3000 miles but I ride 90% in the canyons at "fun speeds"![]()
I typically go through 4-5 sets of tires (PR2, accept not substitute) per season.
Here's a typical ride in Colorado:
