I have an 05. Love it. Which tires seem best. I have run Avons for 15,000 miles, but wonder which is the best in performance and wear from your experience?

Welcome to the board since that was your first post. Before the search nazi's arrive, you might want to use the search feature at the top of the banner. It will become your friend around this board very quicky. I know that tires have been discussed MANY, MANY times here and if I knew how to use the hyper-link thingy, I'd link a search for you. But I don't. So try using the search button first, and then maybe paruse the Never Ending Recurring Pointless Thread ( NERPT ) section of the board.

Again, welcome aboard the board. :)

Avon Storms. Let them cure in the sun for approx 7 weeks before running them. This hardens them just enough to provide superior life and still maintain great handling. Welcome aboard, I hope you don't get dog piled too severely. Some of these old hands just can't stand a question to be asked twice. or thrice. They forget they too were once with wonder eyes and asking the same type of question you are.

Avon stopped making the best tires for the FJR. AV46/56 or whatever the hell they were. My suggestion, Pilot Road 2's or Dunlop Road Smarts.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum. Learn how to search now, this was you freebie!

Undt vee veesh to velcuum you to zee club. I zink you vill verk wery vell as der Botschafter for zee gruppe, ya?

Welcome to the board, like everyone else said...use the search function.

IMHO I don't think Avon has ever made a tire worth a sh*t. The PR2's and Road Smarts are my choice.

Oh yeah, if start a thread on oil they will really pounce...especially on Fridays

Now wait a minute...the ME 99 was a great intermediate rain tire for the track if you didn't have time to cut a slick. Generally I am not a Metzler fan either, or Continental, or shinko (or is that chinko???)

Can somebody suggest a good place in my local area to get these road smart tires mounted on my FJR? Should I buy them over internet as suggested and have installed or get both (tires & installation) at the shop? I'll continue my search but thought I'd ask here.

I have a set of PR2's sitting in the basement waiting to be installed soon but I gotta say I have been pleasently surprised with the Storms. I am at 10.5k miles right now and probably have 1k or more left on the rear...the front looks like it could go another 5k easily. Thats eaily twice what I got with the old Azeros.

I also own an '05. Best all 'rounder I've owned, aside from being, without a doubt, the fastest AND best looking FJR model year ever offered to the public! :clapping:

I'm certian you've already gotten the answer to your tire question with a quick search on the forum, and/or from previous replys. Opinions regarding tires are sorta like belly buttons~everybody has one!

At any rate, welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here...

FJstaR, I had cdogman install mine at his house. I watched, mostly, and handed him the wrong tools and talked too much, but he managed to get them on and we were both happy. They were extremely tight fitting! Robin is no small guy and he was damned-near standing on the spoons to get this tire over the rim! So unless you get them put on at a shop be prepared for a fight. But maaaaaaaaan do they feel good! (replaced my OEM Metzs... rear was worn flat like my truck tire and the front was cupping in 6500 miles... no more Metz for me)

What are they charging for the install?

Fixed your editorial comments there... :D

'Course I could be prejudiced coming from the faster '04. :clapping:

Wow. That's odd. I think you are the only one so far that has claimed more tire life with the Storm than the Azaro. I know I definitely got more miles from the Azaro.
Maybe the miles were put on in winter vs. summer riding or fewer twisties. I always got tons more life out of the Avons on cooler roads or when I did long, straight trips instead of romping in the hills.
