Ok, I am a canyon rider primarily, unloaded fast twisties. I have tried Roadsmarts, the rear is great the front sucks, esp where the 2 compounds meet, if you play at all with tire pressure for max traction the front self destructs, FAST. On Dunlap Qualifiers right now, long story the short being; not appropriate for a bike of this weight class. No big trips planned for awhile so will be playing in the canyons fall and next spring (no slaba-daba-do), so my question is how are the Avon Storms for twisties?? I have about 1k left on the Qualifiers so I want to go ahead and order new buns. I DO NOT WANT ANY DUAL COMPOUND TIRE, they are way too finicky. Let me have it, e

The Dunlop RS does NOT have dual compound in the front, only the rear, check it out on their website.
Try some Michelin Pilot Powers. I have seen a few FeeJ's with them, no idea how long they last. I bet the handling is awesome, I used them on the track with my Duc, loved them.
You'll have to decide, handling or longevity, or something in between.

If you're into the tight twisties, you could do far, far worse then the Storms. They are awesome in the tight stuff.
Concur that you might also want to consider the Pilot Powers.... a very sticky tire.

Damn, your right, when I bought them I was under the impression that the front was dual compound as well (guess I need to be a bit more thorough in my research. Well in any case the front tire went south on me in about 1k, very strange wear pattern, almost like a mottled welted curvy center rib that weaved around the center of the tire with very smooth wear in to edges, NOT a typical cupping, I had never seen this from a front tire before which furthered my belief that it was a strange dual compound thing. Any ways i have super sticky Qualifiers on her now but unfortunately I burned through them finishing off a 3500 ride down south on a bunch of super straight roads. I did some searching and reading up on the Storms, I think I might try them next, just tired of $400 experiments.

I have on Storms after getting rid of the horrid stock 021's. I really like them they grip really well. I have been putting in some serious mountain riding the past month and they have pushed them hard , they track very well. I have around 1200 on them and they are wearing pretty well. I realize there are tradeoffs made performance vs. life, and if I get 4-5k out of them I will be happy.

Pirelli Strada... Excellent tire to run with the Dunlop Roadsmart rear.
My front Dunlop RS did the same thing, that was the reason I will no longer use them. The rear did great, but that rib on the front made the lean into the turn rather sporty at best. I did not like the handling of this and was really disappointed since I usually use Dunlop's. I can't remember if it was Fred W. or haulinasche that posted up about a theory behind this.
My limited experience with the Michelin Pilot Powers was awesome, they stick real well.

Pilot powers are not going to last very long on the heavy Feejer. I ride the canyons of the Sierra Nevada's and never had a problem with many sets of the Pilot Roads.
My last set was PR2's and loved them even more all the way to the end of the tire life . Never had any issues as some folks have had with the dual compound.

I mounted a PP2 on the front last year due to the PR2 fronts being on back order. I like the way it sticks wet and dry but it is cupping like crazy and I've run 40 to 41 PSI in it from the beginning. The FJR is just too heavy for it. The cupping is happening just off of center. Makes it vibrate a bit but it still handles good even in the rain. The PP's might be better due to a different tread design. YMMV but for me the PP2 will be off my bike soon (PR2 front are on back order once again). Just passing along my history with them, it might be different for you. The PR2 on the rear is SUPER! And I'd do the Storms again if the quality was better. My first set of Storms were JUNK!
