He did say both on order were non-ABS models, adding "we won't sell an ABS FJR" intimating that it was some sort of slur to have ABS on a bike.

WTF? Did he say why?

I wouldn't trust this dickweed as far as I could throw him. Why would he not want to sell you what you want?

Living in Latte Land where it rains all the fooking time and there are things like steel plates and manhole covers etc, I opted for the ABS. The extra weight doesn't bother me at all ( I could lose 20 pounds myself to make up the difference). I like the fact that I can grab a handfull of brake and not worry about tucking the front as I might without ABS. If I lived in So Cal or Arizona, it might be a different story.

Came around a blind curve the other day on a 2 lane road and a car was stopped in my lane. Couldn't pass as a car was coming in the left lane. Straightened the bike up and grabbed a handful/footful of brakes to whoa this baby up. I just knew I would stop in time and be in control. I was more worried abt the car behind me than in front.

This little episode had a happy ending. ABS is a "piece of mind" addition to this bike.

ABS rocks IMHO.

ABS is for pussies that don't know how to ride or stop a motorsickle. All it does is make the bike more complicated. Same goes for stupid disc brakes, electric start, electronic ignition, overhead cams, aluminum frames, shaft drive, fuel injection, tachometers, fuel gauges, windshields, aluminum formed wheels, radial tires. This is all the motorcycle you need, and I don't wanna hear any whinin' either! Now start kickin' boy....

Okay, now you guys are starting to make me feel at home.

When I began considering a Feejer a few weeks back, I started the typical web search for forums and info on my potential purchase.

The first forum I hit was the EZBoard collective. Except for Warchild's Ticking Archive, which was a marvelous compilation of info, I felt the general tone of the board was a bit dry. No, make that somewhat dry. No, make that dry as a popcorn fart.

Hanging out with the hooligans on the ZRXOA forum the past 3 years, I felt there was a lot missing over at EZ. Too much "how do I keep my sheepskin seat cover nice and fluffy" and not enough "how do I get another 75 horses out of this beast" types of discussions.

Anyway, I've been here from almost day 1. Got to see the birth, although I did miss the conception.

I like the "attitude" of this forum MUCH more than other FJR forums I've visited. Like I said earlier, starting to feel at home.

Oh...and it looks like I'd be a dumb$&1t to A) buy from a dealer who "refused" to sell an ABS FJR, and B) to buy a non-ABS.

Keep up the great work guys...you'd be right at home with the ZRX hoolies.

Hey, ABS is personal choice. Personally I see no reason to not have a proven safety feature on an already inherently unsafe vehicle. If you are concerned about spending $1K more for it, then maybe you should reconsider purchasing an FJR altogether. They aren't the cheapest bikes around but even with the extra cost for ABS, and at MSRP. IMHO they are still a good deal for the machine that it is. Typically ABS has a higher resale as well. If you are concerned about that.

If you still haven't decided. A real world test of ABS verses Non ABS in perfect and scare the moist a$$ cheese out of you conditions. Average Riders & Skilled Racers. If you don't want to read the whole thing, look at the comparison stopping charts. Non ABS perfect conditions a few feet difference. Non perfect conditions some well over a hundred feet difference. I saw the results of a rider rideing out of his comfort zone and without ABS in a tight right hand corner lock up rear wheel cross yellow line hit the bank do a 360 bike landed on its handel bars, mufflers trashed he was ok he came off as bike hit bank. He'd just came off two days at a track, he was trying to stay with guys that had more experience, had he pushed the right bar he'd of gone around fine. These bikes will handel better than most riders can ride.

Now that I have had both, get the ABS. I am struggling adapting to the non-abs. I could brake way harder with the abs before you felt the shudder of the unit modulating the brakes. I'll get it figured out but dread the emergency stop I know i am going to have to make sooner or later. Goodluck and get going. This is without a doubt the quickest summer on record, Already July 9. I can't tell you how many times I have come into a corner HOT grab the brakes and have the ABS kick in on the rear as the bike travels over some stutter bumps. The extra braking allowed me to stay in my own line instead of having the rear lock-up and throwing me wide into the on-coming traffic.

There were two dealers with FJR's. One had a non ABS the other had an ABS.

The non ABS salesman said "I'd pay extra NOT to have ABS because I hate it so much."

The salesman with the ABS bike said, "ABS is safer, it's a no brainer."

Whatever they have to sell will be what they think is best.

If they have both, they'll try to sell the ABS to you at a premium of $1500 because it is ABS.

The truth is that ABS is safer and statistics from testing and experienced test riders will tell you this. Heck...one time that it allows me to stop upright instead of a slow drop due to sand, or oil and the $1,000 is suddenly worthwhile. Of course, if it prevents a serious spill then so much the better.

I also think that the non-ABS models are fine and I wouldn't scoff at anyone saving the $1000 or wanting to do tricks with their bike.

I believe this part of the report states it best:

In the end, everyone could hardly believe just how good ABS really is. It's certainly not a sales gimmick. This is clearly the biggest advance in braking safety since the advent of the disc brake.
