Do you put a cover over your motorcycle when staying overnight in a hotel/motel? Why? To keep it cleaner, or to keep it away from prying eyes? If yes, what type of cover do you use while traveling?

I use a medium sized Aerostich Ultralight Cover and, if at a hotel, tend to cover it to keep folks from eyeballing it (I often use an alarmed cable to secure it, but sometimes don't bother). Keeping it clean isn't really a consideration while on the road.

Disposable covers. Here's one on my bike. They are cheap, you throw them away when done, and don't take up much space when packing for a trip.

When traveling, never. But at home, I just use a towel to cover the seats. I have cats at home and don't want them ripping my seat to shreds...

Always cover, primarily for security but I've got a leather Russell so it's not good to let it sit in the rain. I've got a large Aerostich Ultralight cover once it's on even with the top box you can't even tell what kind of tires I've got. I secure it with just a carabiner this keeps it snug so it doesn't flap too much in the wind and to get it off takes some fidgeting so that makes it difficult to remove for the curious.

I have a Nelson Rigg UV-2000, used it twice. This summer used a Laminar Lip KwikKover, shown to me by a friend with an ST1100. It packs small and you clip the pouch behind your rear seat. Just unzip and stretch it over the seat and windshield. Bags and top box remain uncovered. The material is silvery and stretches 50%, very convenient. Take it off if you have a passenger and it stows very small. Not cheap, I think it was $65. I really like it.

I guess it's up to me to be the voice of laziness for this thread.

I never cover mine anymore at home or on trips.

I used to use a cover at work more for uv protection than anything else.

I don't ride to work anymore and at home the bike is always inside.

I have a friend whose Venture blew over in high winds and he blamed it on the well secured cover acting as a sail.

If I'm on a road trip of any significance, generally pack a cover to keep the prying eyes at bay. I figure with the bike covered maybe they'll move along to the chrome laden HD instead...I use a cover from EZTouring, not the cheapest but is well constructed and packs up small.

Nelson rigg half cover for FJR.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't...prying eyes mainly, or moisture, or frost.
+1

It does help for prying eyes, but more to keep the bike cleaner and drier for the inevitable DC rain.

Just make sure to leave it off if the wind is going to get really strong, as the thing becomes a sail. I came around the corner and watched the bike rocking on the centerstand one time.

Don't own a cover.

Rain on the bike when parked actually rinses off a little of the filth it accumulates when ridden.

My driveway is a quarter-mile of gravel, all my neighbors have gravel driveways, and a mile-away neighbor is a major rock quarry. The roads around Kapowsin are filthy, so that the bike and I get a nice coating of sand and mud on rainy days. It's nice to let mother nature rinse some of that off while the bike is parked at work.
