That is the question.

I was in picking up my Feej at the local cycle repair (I had a mishap with the backend of a Lexus a few weeks back so some Tupperware replacement was in order :fie: ) and I noticed they were running a bike on the dyno. I asked how much to map my bike and he wants $280. That seems a bit steep to me. They are a certified PC tuning shop for what that is worth. Has anyone out there any experience with this and is it worth the coin. I am in the S.F. bay area, if you know of a better deal please feel free to chime in.

If you have a Dynojet Power Commander, and they have a Dynojet 250 with the needed connections, and a header pipe with rivnuts installed, they could get your bike to be perfect. The Power Commander allows for minute adjustments in the pulse width of the individual fuel injectors. Along with an EGA sniffing each pipe you can tweek everything. Realizing the last bit of power out of your motor. Is this necessary? Probably not. The FJR runs like scared horse as it is. But if money were no object..... You would want to add the K&N air filter and some nice exhaust cans before the dyno tuning.

But without a Power Commander to tweek it wouldn't be worth it.

My $0.02

This process's results will only be as good as the tuner as well. If they're a good shop, and the guys know what they are doing, it could be worthwhile.

If they are not taking CO2 measurements, and are just changing settings then dynoing again, it's not worthwhile.

I have the PC III, Dale Walker exaust and run the Dale Walker map. I've tried other maps but this feels the best. I have confidence the shop knows what they are doing, I just thought the price was a bit high. thanks for the input.

I have the Dale Walker slip-ons, but I had Ivan's Performance Products do a custom map. Ivan takes 2 days to do it, letting the bike cool down as appropriate. It cost $200 and the difference was VERY noticeable. Lots more low-RPM HP, and the top end is 128HP. Was it worth it? I think so.

Those who have owned a Kawi ZRX 1200 are usually quite familiar with Ivan's Performance Products. I used his system on my ZRX 1200 with a Muzzy SS/Alum full system. Major Improvement!! I have no experience with Ivan's and the FJR though, but based upon the work he has performed with the ZRX, I can certainly give a thumbs up to his talents in the tuning department.

Ivan doesn't like the FJR much--too heavy for his taste. But he is a heluva tuner with an understanding beyond most. For the FJR, all he needed, of course, was his dyno and to plug into the USB port on my PCIIIusb. He doesn't HATE the FJR--it's just not his kind of bike--think FZ1, R1, similar things from the other Big 4--and old Suzuki twin cylinder two-strokes--Hustler, T-350, etc.

I too am an Ivan fan. When I restored my '85 RZ500 ( v4 2 stroke ) I bought his carb jet kit and he spent a half hour on the phone w/ me to help. Then a year later I purchased a pipe and kit from him for my FZ1. Everything worked great right out of the box. RZ dyno'ed @ 89 hp 75 ftlbs. and the FZ1 139 hp 101 ftlbs.

The man knows his ****.

Like to get MY FZ1 on that dyno! Never had it turn more than 129hp and 78 ft/lbs with Ivan's jet kit and a Yoshi can--but not a full exhaust setup. Ant that was Ivan dyno'ing it.

Of course, if you want to go crazy with the FZ1, there's Ivan's monster kit--but that means pistons, etc. He gets over 150hp out of his "monster".
