Well, where the hell you been Howie? I've already been out riding and flying since 9 this AM. It's 3 PM and you're just getting going? Wimp. :****:

Just kidding. Hope your having a great ride. I thought it was going to rain here and be lousy. Turned out to be sunny and mild. Now the rain is coming in again. Maybe it'll clear out for another session tomorrow!?! :punk:

I went for one of the last longer rides of the season today. It was 1 degree C when I headed out at 8:30 AM. Sometimes there isn't enough engine heat on this bike! Brrrrrr!! It warmed all the way up to 10 degrees later in the day. Put in 550 km. Other than the temps it was a beautiful sunny day and the leaves are red and gold. Just perfect.

Left my mothers house at 7am in the central valley of Ca warm once the sun came up but once I got over the Grapevine I 5 at Gormon the whole LA BASIN was foged in stayed that way all day. 200+ miles took 3hrs and 15 minutes pulled in the garage with 17 miles into reserve.

Well I just pulled in...one lucky-to-be-alive sumbitch.

Hurricane Wilma, while still a good distance away from Central Florida, is throwing moisture all over the (ha-ha) Sunshine State, leaving roads slick over the entire damn state. Took a "quick" run from Lakeland to Cedar Key for some fresh seafood. Yum.

Got finished with dinner around 8pm and decided to head back home, via the Ocala National Forest.

After tonight, I'm convinced the FJR attracts deer. I've been driving Central Florida roads since the mid '60s and never saw deer...ANY deer...'til a couple of weeks ago when I spotlighted one with the FJR's headlights on SR471 in the Green Swamp north of Lakeland, Florida.

Now, tonight, not only do I "spot" deer, I'm dodging them like bugs on SR40 and US19 in the forest.

It's gotta be the exhaust. It's too mild. Like Bambi's mom humming a soothing beddie-bye tune.

Who makes a full system for this beast?

Anyway, right at 320 miles and only had to put the rainsuit on once. Cooled down enough to leave it on and only got a little steamy during the slow-go deer-dodging sections.

As always, the big guy took everything in stride and passed along 49.82mpg to boot. Wonder where I lost the .18mpg more I got on my Key West trip last month?

The bad thing is, he is absolutely filthy. Indescribably so. Not looking forward to the much needed cleanup.

The FJR is becoming some kind of drug addiction. NEVER in my 30+ years of motorcycle riding would I decide in the middle of the afternoon to drive 140 miles to "get some seafood", then take a longer, 180 mile route to get home.

God I love my FJR.

The wife and kids don't quite understand it. Phuque 'em, I say. :****:

It is interesting how enjoyable it is to have those miles melt away under you. Could get scary though, once the bike is fitted with true long distance apurtenances, like a Russell seat and Audiovox CC.

Then it will be "hmmmm....let's see what's for dinner in Atlanta tonight."
