Having put 21,000 miles on my BMW R1150R (that’s the naked BMW) I decided I wanted something a little better suited for longer rides. I have done a couple of Iron Butt Rides on the BMW and have another scheduled in September. Last Saturday I rode down to Birmingham and back (500 miles) just to grill steaks and smoke cigars with a buddy of mine. The bike is OK for such rides, but a little more protection and power would be nice.

I tested several machines, including all the new BMWs. Luckily, my local dealer has a rental program that includes an FJR. Today I took it for a 200 mile “extended test ride” that included some slab, state highways and several mountain twisties. Wow!! I found just what I had been searching for. What a great combination of power, agility and comfort.

When I got back to the dealer and turned in the rental it didn’t take long to write the check and reserve the next one in.

I spent a lot of time reading this site in advance of my ride. Thanks to all who have posted such great advice and insights. I’m sure I will be hanging around here often, and look forward to learning about all the little tweaks that really make a bike your own.

The Beamer will stay in the garage, because I still truly love it, but my ride on the FJR let me know it was clearly time to push the “BUY” button.

Actually, he said that four were scheduled for delivery this month (3 AEs and 1 A).

Maybe I should have told him I would put the check in the mail :D

Glad you found what you're looking for! Welcome to the forum.

Did you get an AE or the A?

After thirty years with a manual clutch I couldn't change now. I got the A. Thinking of the AE reminds of the famous line from Deputy Fife, "It just ain't right, Ang"

Sounds like a lucrative program for the dealer. Who'da thunk, test rides sell bikes. What a concept.
Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the collective.

Assimilation complete. NEXT!

Who's the dealer? Abernathy's in Union City has 4 arriving in August and 3 in Sept. $12,299.00 for the A model.

really man, I'm thinking of moving to Nashville real quickly and picking up a bike...I wish they'd sell them for $12,300 around here! :angry2:

or even had a few "xtras"...

oh well, I guess I'll make mine an '07/'08 :D

Union City, TN Abernathy's

D&H Cycles in Cullman, AL is supposed to have even better prices when they have FJR's. I've heard that they sell in the $11,500.00 range. (256) 739-1840 i don't think they have a web site.

It turns out zzkenoman's post was close to accurate. I got a call from the dealer today saying he was sorry, but it looked like he could not get me an 06 afterall. A few phone calls to other dealers, and I had my $500 deposit back from Sloans.

Another local dealer was able to get one from a dealer in Kentucky. He is riding up to get it tomorrow. I have to say that after my experience at Sloans, I will believe it when I see it.

They may not be able to order more, but there are some out there, have a little faith. All dealers pretty much suck... I think it's a pre-requisite.

I sympathize with them though. The margins are tight and there is a LOT to learn and a lot of difference between all the lines. However, that doesn't give them the right to be stupid, or treat customers like ass like most do.

Vman,

Sent ya a PM.

Who is the other dealer you’re working with? If that’s not too personal of a question. :questionmark:
