Any recommendations for a top box for my 2018 FJR 1300? The bike color is matte blue, although that does not mean the box has to be that color, although it would be nice. Thanks in advance for your input!
I too went with the Shad 58X, but upgraded to the aluminum Shad mounting plate attached to the Yamaha aluminum rack.
Shad D1BTRPAPhotos and part numbers or it didn't happen!!!
Let's talk about this "upgraded support rack". What exactly (picture will help) do you have to use with the OE box? If it's the plain Yamaha black mount plate that just bolts on top of the grab rack, it will NOT keep you from breaking off the ass end of your bike. It's probably more of a decision on the size. I have the smaller (39L) OEM box on the upgraded support rack. Keyed to side bags and a great set up. It will NOT hold 2 full face helmets, but I rarely need that. The 50L is indeed huge and too big for little old me (61yrs and only 5'5", and short inseams) and may even effect handling at upper highway speeds... but that's another thread that has been beaten more than the dead horse.
One downside of the OEM is the lack of integrated brake and directional lights... if that's important to you.
Not associated in any way, just passing along a darn good price for the whole Gen2/3 set up.Any recommendations for a top box for my 2018 FJR 1300? The bike color is matte blue, although that does not mean the box has to be that color, although it would be nice. Thanks in advance for your input!
The small OE top case fits the bike as is. The upgraded rack has ‘arms’ that bolt to the frame closer to the front of the bike, and is required for the larger OE case. The smaller case also works with the upgraded rack. Reportedly the upgraded rack is becoming a hard to find item.Let's talk about this "upgraded support rack". Whew, I feel better knowing you have the aluminum one and not the upgraded plain black plate. The small OE top case fits the bike as is. Sorry about the slow reply. I bought my bike with the HD support rack, not just the plate. I think it's a Yamaha part # but you'll have to search it. I also got the original rack with the bike and the one on it is definitely more beefy! Hope that helps.Let's talk about this "upgraded support rack".
