A search yeilds a few pieces of info, but nothing about how well these breath.

I'm looking for a good breathable pant, and I've heard the Air Glides are good, but these are cheaper, and they come in a short size!

Also just curious if silver pants really make a difference when compared with black pants during the summer? Does the silver really reflect more heat? I would guess no, but I've never tried silver pants before!

Yes, me and my wife both ride with these pants. I find them to be the bomb because they are a system pants. Two liners to carry in the side bag instead of another set of pants.

These are very comfortable to me. My wife doesn't like them because they aren't fashionable......I told her to go ride with the Harley guys....this didn't go over very well. Anyway, she got over it and now doesn't mind the safety over the fashion.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for comments.

Don't care about the look...

How is the actual airflow? What temps have you ridden up to?

I had joe rocket alter ego pants, and the air flow sucks on those.

I like mine, Sally likes hers. We both wear black. When it is really hot she wears her bicycle undies and the mesh part and she is all-day comfortable. If the temp drops she can add layers. I tend to be colder at higher temperatures so I have never worn the mesh part without at least jeans under and that was fine. In cold temperatures the thermal liner does very well. We forego the waterproof liners unless it is raining when we start out, and we use our rain gear if it starts raining later. Putting the waterproof liner in is a slight pain when you already have the insulated liner in. Sally has the matching jacket, I have a Pivot which has the permanent rain liner in, with the same thermal liner.

Now you don't get much airflow on top of an FJR, not like for example my FZ-1. That said I have never wished I had not worn mine when it was hot. My pants serve well on both bikes in all weather. We have been past a bank thermometer reading 101F and under my helmet was the hottest part. I try to avoid sub-freezing temps but above say 38F we've had no problem with long johns and jeans and the thermal liner. Been to the Badlands in July and PA/WV hills in October and April. I don't wear them all the time, for short jaunts around town I might wear my chaps, but I wear them most of the time.

Note that the advertisement photos at all the catalog websites make these pants look like you are wearing jeans. They are much 'fuller' in reality with lots of room under for added long johns and jeans and liners and armor. And since I lost 50# they are a bit 'fuller.' I don't much care what I look like in them as they do the job and the armor is in the right place. You won't achieve a "long, lean" look in them, though.

HTH, YMMV

I highly recommend the Olympia Air Glide pants.

I do firmly believe that the silver helps keep you a tad cooler on the 90+ degree days. Air flow is better than what I had used previously (Cortech mesh and some JR mesh pants).

They don't come in short, and like you I'm inseam challenged.

However, your local drycleaner can hem them and the liner. I think it cost me $20 for both?

I tried those on, along with pairs from other makerrs (Joe Rocket, Firstgear, Fieldsheer)

And ended up buying the Fieldsheer titainium pant:

Why? because it was the most comfortable of them all, and when not moving, the coolest. All the others had my legs sweating walking around in the store. After examining them I did notice they had the largest amount of area devoted to the mesh fabric. The others seemed to just have mesh "panels" sewn in betwwen non breathable nylon, where the FS pant seemed to be the other way around...nylon panels sewn into the mesh pant.

Anyway, it still had hip and knee pads (removable) and the lining seemed softer. Wore them on my trip to TN and they worked great in 90+ temps.

I just bought a pair of the black Air Venture pants Tuesday. Rode home from work yesterday and the temps were low 80's. Wore boxers underneath with no liner zipped in. Great airflow. Had dress slacks underneath in the morning and the temps were in the high 30's. Stayed warm then with no problems. I like these pants.

Those look perfect, but with a 33.5 inch inseem, the kneepads will be on my ankles....

Fieldsheer doesn't offer either of their mesh pants in a short option. So looks like I will stick with the tourmasters.

I have worn the Venture Airs in Florida, no problem with heat. I've worn them down to 25 degrees and was comfortable with jeans under them. They are available in long and short sizes, as well. Being a bit large in the middle, I went with a giant-size short.

Maybe it's just me, but I have probably tried 4-5 brands and am yet to find a pair of mesh pants where the armor stays in place over my bony knees. Sorry if this is seen as a hijack, but has anybody else gotten past this problem? I'm about to buy some Bohn Adventure pants.

They do tend to roll a little. My Joe Rocket Alter Egos rolled when I went down, and I got a small spot of rash on my knee. Nothing compared to what would have happened had I not been wearing them, but still, I have run into the same problem.

Keith,

I bought Fieldsheer pants and paid a local seamtress shop $30 to hem them 3". Worth every penny.

Silver color makes a huge difference when you stop, especially if you do any walking around in them.

It will be 87F here today and 95+F by June. If you need to know what works in a hot & humid climate, just holler! You can come my way and try stuff out.

:)

Do you mean you bought a 32 size pant? Because the size chart says 32 = 33.5 inseem.

Maybe I'll get them and try them, the inseem isn't supposed to be right on anyway, because you sit with your knees bent on a motorcycle.

Maybe I will just order them and if I need to I'll bring them to the drycleaner to be hemmed.

Dunno, it just says "32" on a band label inside. My trusty tape measure shows it to be about 32" on the inseam. The hip and knee pads seem to tuck the length up some, but I do notice that standing off the bike, the knee pads are a bit low. But when sitting on the bike they are right. Guessing if I do wipe out my legs will more than likely be a bit bent, so no real worries for me.

And although you guys might give me crap about it, I removed the hip pads. The closed cell foam they use there just providing too much insulation making them too hot . I plan on replacing them with a different material soon anyway...

checkswrecks, I also purchased a pair of tourmaster air venture pants and took them for a quick 100 mile ride. I was pleased with the cool flow of air but couldn't get past the knee armor rolling around inside the pants! I returned them right away and I'm still looking for an alternative. I do have the Bohn body armor that I wear under my jeans but they are a little warm. Good luck in your search and keep us posted. I will do the same when I find something. Jevers

ended up ordering the Fieldshier titanium air 2 pants.

Here is a great site to get them from if you need size 38 or up. These pants are reported by most to run 1 size large.
