I'll be trying out my new SPOT GPS tracking unit and be in SPOTcasting mode starting Saturday morning, May 31st during the Word! rally in Nevada.

Clicky here for my whereabouts.

I'll likely have it turned on with my commute to Nevada Thursday as well, but just remember the fun stuff doesn't start until Saturday morning.

A blog background of the adventure and hopefully a report or two before the rally is here.

SprintST wrote that post heading - din'nt he?

Good luck, Matt. Don't let skooper poke holes in your condoms!

Thanks but we already get the magazine!

:p

This is very very groovy.

I've seen screen shots of the SPOT gizmo tracking thing ...but it doesn't do justice to real time.

As l type this ...the iggster is just south of Mountain Home ..heading south. I can easily see where he's been and knowing his destination, which route he's decided to take.

I give this 11thumbs-up on the renojohn groovy scale.

Very, very cool...

I can see these becoming a requirement for LD rides at some point in the future...

Now if they could only get this puppy integrated into a Zumo....

Griff

That's pretty cool.

When I first entered a few coordinates to see how fast you were going, it showed 115 mph. Then I realized a flaw in my calculations.

EDIT: Nevermind this post. My online coordinates distance calculation was incorrect.
I was wondering.............

Trying to figure out how you got those #s. Espcecially knowing how Matt rides, he wouldn't be going that fast on that type of road in the middle of the night.

Well, I am not convinced on this SPOT thing. It's kind of cool. But I don't like how it doesn't match up to the actual roads. Also, I wish there was more information somehow. Not sure what, but something.

Never really happy, are you?

Phuckin' squids...I swear.

I think it's very cool for the folks to track your progress. Especially those that tend to worry...like moms and wives and such.

From Matt's Blog:

Thursday, 01:40

I’m outta Pasco. SPOT will be active and I’ll be riding to Ely. Haven’t decided if I’m riding the slab to Twin Falls and cutting down through Jackpot or riding 395 to Burns and then try Denio as a new road.

I’ll get to decide by Pendleton.

Looks like he picked the Jackpot route...

Yeah, the as-the-crow-flies thing isn't the greatest interface. One can type each lat/long into something like S&T and get likely routes. I'm gonna have to talk to my programmer friends (the one that helped me with the member map) and see if there's some way to scrape the data off automatically and go build my own Google map.

Suffice it to say that 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. generally was flow-of-traffic including Boise morning commute. However, south of Twin Falls it got much more fun....like the Nevada I remember. No fuzz sightings although Kaitsdad and TurboDave just rolled in and said they saw multiple on 6 I think.

There's already a group bolt-turning session in the parking lot. Somebody that shall remain nameless till they post up....seems to have put a rear brake pad on the wrong side of the rotor. They've been limping from L.A. with front brakes only....ooops...might have spoiled it.

And how many of us brought our 27mm socket or big enough adjustable wrench to untorque the 91 ft/lb. rear main bolt. That would be zero for four. ;) I see Napa in our near future. ;)

Nappy time. All riding and no sleep makes Iggy a fuzzy boy. :dribble:

pfffft, lightweight.

I'm bringing a crescent wrench that'll fit, but won't be there til lunchtime tomorrow if you wanna wait. Either way, s'all good.

Ahem... I do. I'll be rolling in around noonish tomorrow so if the problem still exists between pad and rotor, I can assist then.

Dude, they were everywhere and the most interesting part of this encounter: They knew where I was going and many of the details ....I played dumb, they told ME! Made visual and got it (speed) down somewhat before radar but still got me. Good guys, could have been worse, could have been better. I just hope it is the last of the weekend. Geeze, #11 encounter in the last 18months if memory correct.

Just to clarify - the pad wasn't on the wrong side of the rotor - I put the rotor on the wrong side of the pad.

We got it fixed - everyone checked for tools, Rick Martin jumped in there to help, getting his hands covered in Honda Moly 60, and I managed to scam a 12" crescent from the hotel maintenance guy cause my cheesy 6 incher wasn't cutting it ...something about leverage, I think.

(EDIT 6-6 to correct name)

NOTE TO SELF: PACK YOUR EFFING TOOLS, MORON!

my rear rotor is highly polished - kind of a nice look. Although it's a wee bit thinner.

Lots of folks scrambled looking for tools when I asked for help.

I felt like an idiot, but no one chewed on me about it. All they wanted to do was help fix it.

Class Acts, one and all !! Thanks, everyone !!
