Hello all-

I used to have a FJR and have always missed it since selling.

I now have an incredibly nice 2001 R1150GS with about 9K on the speedo, and many farkles. The bike is in exceptional condition. Have toyed with selling the bike outright with all farkles, or selling off farkles first, then bike pretty much standard. Now I'm thinking that possibly a trade for a late model year FJR might work too. Has to be a 2008 or later....and has to be in as incredible condition as my GS - hopefully outfitted as nice as mine too.

Some of the accessories on my bike:

- Aeroflow screen, and OEM.

- Piaa lights

- Stainintune lowered full exhaust and OEM .

-Larger left saddlebag and OEM left saddlebag.

- larger brake pedal

- 1" risers

- Speigler brakes lines front and back

- Touratech hard part

- Oil cooler screen

- Touratech larger sidestand addition

- Throttlemeister

- Corbin front and rear seat, plus OEM

- K1000 rear view mirrors, plus OEM

- Wunderlich tank panel protectors

-Wunderlich engine guards

-Cylinder valve guards

....and more that I can't think of right now.

Bike runs flawlessly.

If anyone is interested, please PM me, let me know what you have and we can discuss options.

Thanks.

I think you would be doing yourself a disservice by trading. Those GS bikes sell like friggen hotcakes. Go put an Ad on the ADV Forum with a reasonable price and it will sell like nobody's business. There aren't that many of these highly desirable 1150's left with only 8k miles on them. ;)

Then find a nice used FJR and you'll be set

I understand that someone might be willing to travel to purchase/trade, but your location is not in your profile. Where are you located?

Do used GS'es go for that much more than book value? By the book A 2008 FJR is worth $3K more. That would be similar mileage an farkles of course.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm located in Maryland.

I know the ADVrider forum well and it may be my next stop if I sell outright.

Also, there are several "book values"

Trade-in which is usually a joke

Private party is what most would consider a fair price

Retail is the private party value plus additional profit. This is usually too high.

You don't see too many '01 GS'es with 9k miles on them. That makes it worth a lot more than book value.
Our Freddie Bear is right on, you would be well advised to sell it yourself. The pre R1200GS R11's are in high demand and they fetch a pretty penny, way more than book value!

Still wish I had my 1996 R1100GS, sold it to a fellow AZ Beemer Club Member with 110K miles on it and my Friend just passed 200K flawless miles on it.: It keeps truckin' on!

Trade-in value is what you should expect that a dealership is actually allowing on a trade-in, regardless of what is coming out of the salesman's mouth. They may tell you a bigger number to entice you into the deal, but then they are just taking some of that out of what they are getting for the new bike. They may tell you a lower number if they know you are a motivated buyer so they can maximize their own profit in the deal.

Retail is what a dealership could be expected to ask for the bike. Dealerships can get more money than a private party because they have to stand behind the bike, and they have additional overhead and expenses associated with doing business.

The private party value is about half way between wholesale (trade-in) and retail values. It has to be higher than wholesale otherwise the seller would just want to trade it in.

But, all of the various book values are fairly useless for motorcycles. For one thing there is no standard adjustment for mileage. They just assume that you've done the "normal" amount and then they don't have any guidance for how much to adjust up or down from there. You can use these book values as overall guides, but not the same way that you can with cars, which are much more of a commodity item than motorcycles.

Thanks again for all the replies.

You've really made me think about this idea of getting rid of the bike.

Was asked if it had any surging issues? No, none. The bike runs as new. It actually gets better every time I ride it - engine just starting to break in a bit I suppose. It is getting to be more rara to have a bike like this with such low mileage, and it is a beautiful looking thing ( I know others find the GS a "oig", etc) to me.

Maybe I keep the GS (hand down to kids) and save up for the new FJR?

Multiple bike syndrome is an issue with me too. Hmmmmmm

Really appreciate the info on this site.!!

Would you consider adopting a 55 y/o guy?

That's pretty funny.

Tell ya what....I'll make my way up to NH at some point and we can switch bikes for a while. My wife and I have just become empty nesters...so, adoption of any kind is out of the question right now - except, perhaps another bike!

Deal!! :)

I wouldn't want to trade permanently, I love my fully farkled out FeeJeR too much. But for a ride would be fun.

Can't tell where you are from (not in your profile yet), but if you want to come up and swap for a day sometime just let me know.

Edit - Just found where you said you're in Maryland.

Note It's Friday, don't get your panties in a wad, i'm still just funnin' with ya! ;)

I know, I know... I'm a slow learner but I have a decent memory. ;)

But I should explain myself in an attempt to clear up the prior confusion: I do think the BMW final drives are a handicap, but that wouldn't keep me from owning one. Hell I've owned several in the past. I just wouldn't want it to be my "only" one, or the long distance bike.

I do agree that their final drives are something that need to be closely monitored/maintained. That can (and should) be said about any motorcycle that a person is using for any sort of distance riding. Get to know the bike in question and keep it up to snuff.

That GS is also one of the more desirable years for the 1150 as it is pre-servo abs. With 9k on it, you should be very careful not to give it away.

I have had a few. My final drive went out 100 miles away from my home in Va. Beach. Not that bad really but I was on my way home from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Had it gone out on the haul road or in the Yukon, I would have been screwed.

Other than that weak link, awesome bike.

Being in MD, you are somewhat in the DC market. A bike like yours on the DC Craigslist should bring top dollar.

Trade straight across for a current generation FJR?

<_<
