Has any experienced transporting an FJR in a regular van. Does it fit without removing the windsheild? Trying to determine what is best as I am unable to find a pickup for rent(one way) in the United States.

Thanks

Congrats on the new bike!!!!

I think you would have to remove the shield, then it should fit without problems. I'll go out and measure mine for reference. So don't bother with the one way U-Haul. Now then..............what did ya buy???? and where do you have to go get it??? I bought mine from a guy in GA, and picked it up in my truck in Feb. of last year. I don't think it (the FJR) was too happy when we hit a blizzard in NY state!!!!

OK.............just came back from the garage. If you remove the mirrors and the windshield you'll have just under 48" to the top of the master cylinder. That should give you enough clearance through the back doors on the van.

BTW...................... I before E except after C............. <_<

Oh.............if you want some advice on the exporting end, I'll be happy to tell you how I did it.

I transported mine in a pickup and used the "Canyon Dancer" tie down straps that attach to the handle bars. I do not think I could have done it without those straps because the tie downs hit the fairings every other way I tried it.

I guess if ya had to transport it without riding it, the van is the way to go. That way you wouldn't be exposed to scorn & ridicule like these poor sinners.

Wasn't to sure if it would fit or not and appreciate you going out to measure. If i decide to purchase an fjr it's in the midwest. Still debating and doing the calculations with the exchange, travel, rental etc. plus there are some good ones on kijiji as well.

Once again thanks

LOL...

Believe me, I wish I could ride it back, but thats not an option.

Looks like good weather to be riding instead of towing in that pic.

Thanks Beerme

No worries. You can definitely find a cheaper FJR in the States, but you just have to factor in the exchange right now. I think it's at about $ 0.20 on the dollar, perhaps more. I got lucky in the fact that our dollar was worth more when I bought mine. I scored $1.06 USD for $1 CAN. I think that was the highest exchange rate ever!!!

As far as importing it, that's a breeze. You pay GST on the selling price (be honest. you need proof and they will check) and that's the converted selling price BTW, and a $200 RIV fee. Once it's across, it's PST on that same selling price (DMV looks at the paperwork), safety cert, plates, insurance and you're done!! Just remember that only a "clean" title can get a plate in Canada, and you must submit the paper work to the US export office 72hrs prior. They don't check the VIN until you are going back in to Canada, but that's probably to make sure the vehicle is not reported stolen within that time frame. It may seem like a great deal of work but it's just a bit of paperwork, well worth the effort. Good luck.

Before you jump on the Canyon Dancer, check out CycleCinch as well as the similar product by BVP (a lot cheaper and readily available here in Canada.)

I've got a partial solution to your dilemma:

I now live in Alabama, 100 miles from D&H cycle. You could purchase one there, I'll pick it up and ride it to Port Huron, MI on April 10 (Good Friday). We could meet there and you can continue on with your journy to Toronto-land.

BTW, this is a serious offer, I planned to ride mine up there "one-way" Easter weekend.

I could pick up a bike anywhere within 100 miles of Tuscaloosa, AL.

Not sure if this is a new, newish (still under warranty), or an older FJR out of warranty, but I have heard that the Canadian Yamaha dealers have vowed not to honor warranties on bikes bought in the US and brought north. I'd imagine the forum Canucks have more knowledge of this and can pipe up.

Five years ago, i sent a BMW GS 1000 freight from Vermont to Seattle, costs about $500 and shipped it from BMW dealer to dealer, they did the packing. As it was winter when i headed out for business, it was a good option. Don't know if that competes with driving with the gas and hotels.
