Hi.

My boots have more than a few miles on them and I'm overdue for a new pair. I've worn through the lining, even the gortex, in a few spots. Just wondering if there might be any good bike shops on my route to CFO that might have a decent selection of sport touring style boots. I'll be travelling across Michigan from Pt. Huron past Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo and then following the lake south and west bypassing Chicago on the west side as I head up past Madison on I90.

Any recommendations?

thanks, Philip.

Sportbike Track Gear is in Michigan, not sure how big the store is, but they do a pretty good online business. If you were planning on going south through Ohio, I would recommend The Iron Pony, in Columbus...that place is huge, and has almost anything you could possibly need.

There is a Cycle Gear store on Golf Road in Schamburg which is a suburb northwest of Chicago. Their online site shows a lot of boots but I don't know how much they actually stock at the store.

Thanks to both of you. What I'll do is give both shops a call and find out what they stock and in what sizes and then see whether stops or detours are warranted. My current boots are still comfortable for riding as long as I avoid continuous downpour but aren't really suitable for extended hiking any more. May be past Columbus after snow flies so may see about arranging a stop at the Iron Pony then.

If you're going through Ohio...it's a must see, kind of place. Walking into that store is kind of like Christmas morning.

If you travel northwest along the Mississippi from LaCrosse, you can make a day ride to Bob's Cycle Supply in Roseville, Minnesota. It's on the north side of Minneapolis/St.Paul. Huge assortment of motorcycle apparel. A little out of your way, but you can take scenic roads near the river on the way up and back from LaCrosse.

Thanks. I'll give them a call as well. I'll be in the area a few extra days visiting friends.

I'll give a vote for Bob's Cycle, I got a pair of boots their earlier this summer, and I was simply amazed at the selection they had (of boots, jackets, pants, and other riding gear).

2 Brothers does have some gear, and they can order just about anything, but they generally have a pretty limited selection of gear in store.

Thanks all.

Made a few calls and problem is availability in my size. $ exchange is also a factor. Still looking though and will make some more calls.
