Saw the extremely cool post for the Spyder, reverse I'm-a-goin-bassackwards trike. Me likey!

GF and I have been discussing the possibility of a trike for her, so she can carry all the crap to base camp, and then we can play as usual on the FJR two-up.

Saw a GW trike today. Ohhhh Myyyyyy Goddddd!!! That thing is HUGE! And $33,000 too!

Any smaller trikes in common production? Other thoughts?

is there some sort of reason why she would need a trike vs a regular 2 wheeled machine?

maybe a medical reason??

tell me its not just because she doesn't think she can handle a real motorcycle. please tell me there is a real reason here.

Trex baby, Trex...

It's all about the reverse trike, but not the high-CG typical motorcycle trike.

I don't really have any helpful input.

She's never ridden a bike before in her life. We've discussed all the reasons many times. Just don't see it practical for the two of us to ever try riding bikes together. It would drastically change my riding experience, mainly because it would be years, if ever, before she could keep pace. I'm also afraid I would wind up getting killed because of paying too much attention to her behind me instead of eyes and brain forward where they need to be.

Slappy!!!! You are still alive!!! We miss you Bro'!

Oh yeah, forgot to add...

She said she's afraid that if she stays out of the back seat for very long, that FJRChik will be right in there!

:)

Having test fired one twice the same day over a 5 mile course, if she rides a Spyder as much as you ride an FJR, she will soon only need one hand to keep you in your place. Cause she will have an upper body to rival schwarzenegger in his prime! But they be fun to ride...different...but fun...ya steer the thing...body lean...and steer. It's a strange sensation, but the bike is fine and seems to just be waiting on you to catch up. Torquey lil' thing too, good zip.

just as real a reason as flying to ride-in rallies...

it's what makes the person happy...

their choice, no judgment... ;)

I'm with you there Chik. Perhaps a better title for the thread might have been 'Trike for Inexperienced Rider'. The FJR aint no bike for a rookie to learn on, that's for sure. And I see the logic in not wanting to adjust one's riding style to accommodate a beginner.

My suggestion would be (if she wanted to, of course), to start on a little bike like a Ninja 250 and then have three kinds of rides:

1. His and hers, slow pace, easy roads.

2. Two up FJR, at desired pace.

3. Solo FJR. Pace = don't ask, don't tell.

With sufficient mileage, the desire to do so and a decent bike;

4. Two bikes. Two riders. Desired pace.

As I understand your situation, your GF is a little afraid of driving a motorcycle and you think a trike might help her be more comfortable.

When you boil it down, it's about being out there with the wind in your face. A trike can do that, but so can a convertible. In addition, the convertible can safely carry your GF and and all of the extra stuff you need for the trip.

Just a suggestion, but the GF might be more enthused about driving a used Miata. You might also consider a Nissan 240SX convertible. Nice ones can be had fairly inexpensively.

Here ya go! The $12,000 Burgman! JDog has the rear kit on order for his SO's ride. We're gonna slap it on the scooter when it gets here next month. Hilarity about to ensue!

Been looking real hard at the Piagio(?) MP3, a three-wheeler, 250, for my Blushing Bride. It's set up like the Spyder, two wheels in front. My wife has taken the basic riding course, and routinely rides quads in the dirt, but just can't seem to be able ride a bike on the street. She sez she would much perfer a scooter, or that MP3.

I think you may be on to something here. Are those wheels also removable? How "permanent" is this mod?

edit: What's that sound? Is that...is that...

Wedding Bells?

I better get a freekin invite.

Dunno, but if you look close, you can see the original rear wheel still there. I would guess that this is a removable mod.

 Dude, lay off the weed. You're making no sense again. ;)

First, Scab LAY OFF THE WEED!

:)

Second, no comparison between the Spyder and Piagio MP3 IMO. Spyder is 998cc of technology, MP3 is 250cc of scooter.

My biggest concern thus far about the Spyder... Does not appear to have squat for storage. I mean, zero, ziltch, nada!

Optional storage rack on the back is about large enough to hold a tank bag.

:(

Spyer has a trunk in front nose, big enough to hold your beer cooler. What else do you need to pack? Can't remember the exact capacity, but its there. CAUTION: ride one and you'll both be hooked. Will be one in my stable when I hit the lottery.

And Scab, I think you make perfect sense. I was wondering 'bout dem bells too. And dammit, at least share the weed!

Both of us scoured their web site, pictures, videos etc., and could find no mention of the trunk. I knew it "looked" like there was one, but they never show it open or mention it at all (that I could find).

So pray tell, exactly how did you get a test ride and can you hook a brother up?

:)

Seeing as how we are supposed to be friends and all, I'll spare publicly exposing HER response to Scab's comments. Let's just say that she's got his number, weed and all.

;)
