First off, the owner's manual for my '08 AE leaves much to be desired.

As I left from work today, my fuel gauge was registering 2 bars and my trip odometer said ~150 miles, and as I got closer to home I noticed that it was 1 flashing bar and my trip odometer was indicating 1.2 miles now. I cycled through to the other trip odometer and it hadn't been reset. Is this some sort of automatic thing that happens when you're on your last gallon (or so)?

Here are the questions I have:

) Does the trip odometer reset itself when you have a certain amount of fuel left?

) How much fuel is left when the gauge is flashing?

Thanks!

I have a Gen 1, but that sounds like it hit reserve and is a count-up of miles. It's a display that only appears if bars are flashing.

Fuel it up, ride a short distance, and it should go away.

You have to reset the trip odometer manually.

Sounds like your low fuel odo kicked in, when your fuel gets down to 1.5 gallons it starts counting the miles, so you know how long you have been riding in reserve. The F in front of the miles indicate the low fuel odo.

As alluded above; after fuel-up, the odo count-up will disappear and the correct odo and trip meter miles will come back.

The display, note the big F just under the fuel gauge.

Taken from my 2010 manual, pages 3-8 and 3-9 ...

FWIW I reset Trip 1 every time I fill up, it's often a better indication of range than the somewhat coarse and non-linear fuel gauge. I generally use Trip 2 to show a total trip range.

I wish it was Friday ... but it isn't

Personally, I think the "much to be desired" Owner's Manual explains it quite well.

MCA. Thanks for that.. just had this happen yesterday for the first time. I assumed correctly but didnt know the numbers.

cheers.

The Gen III does this a bit differently. A dedicated "new" odometer appears all alone on its own screen counting up the miles. Of course I hadn't noticed this in the manual the first time it happened, but figured it out quickly enough.

That's exactly what is wriiten in my '07's manual. I'll take a SWAG and say it's in the 2008 owner's manual also.

Yep 'Zilla, once I sort of knew what to look for, I found it by flipping through every single page of the owner's manual. What threw me is that I was looking in the index and couldn't find anything there to point me in the right direction. (In the table of contents, you have to find it in the "multi-function display" section, which wasn't very intuitive as I was looking for "fuel indicator", "odometer", "trip meter", etc.)
