My wife and I joined SockMonkey and his wife in seeing the new Ben Stiller movie, Tropic Thunder. I was already in the mood for a stupid comedy, and the recent protests by various groups sorta encouraged me to want to see it even more.

We weren't disappointed. Holy **** was this movie funny! It was one of the best Ben Stiller movies I've ever seen! I highly recommend it if you are in for a funny stupid movie. It mocks damn near every movie ever made. My wife and I spent the entire ride home remembering various parts that cracked us up!

We were gonna go tonight but figured it would be packed out. Looks like matinée time tomorrow.

Thanks for the review. Was wondering why the release was delayed. Figured it had something to do with some group having their panties in a wad over something in the movie. Hopefully they didn't take anything out of it.

Don't know about the rest of you but movies are SHUT DOWN time for me. No deep thought time there. Mindless entertainment and yes, I don't have far to reach for that.... :dribble:

Ponyfool's right; this is one outrageously funny movie. I can't think of a major Hollywood movie in the last 25 years (particularly the war movies - Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Thin Red Line, etc.) - and the Hollywood cult(ure) on the whole, that doesn't get lampooned. Nothing is safe and, certainly, nothing is sacred. Robert ("I'm a dude playin' a dude disguised as another dude") Downey, Jr., and Tom ("Diet Coke!!") Cruise are hysterical. Cruise needs to do more stuff like this (and I gotta learn that dance!). Go see this!

Or it could be that he is a no-talent hack with a few moves he picked up from watching too much soul train as a kid.

I truely hate Tom Cruise.

Just got hope from this! Awesomely funny ****! I truly do enjoy Robert Downey, he is terrifically funny, and Jack Black parodied almost every slapstick comedien possible. Funny to watch Cruise play a dipshit. Went with my kids (early 20's) and we all laughed our ***** off.

I walked out.

Thanks for shedding some light on this movie.

Maybe it was the local theater, way way way too loud. No dialogue except profanity, LOUD LOUD constant profanity. Have to wait to see it on DVD/Cable to see if i get it more.

Sportster

I'm kinda with you on this, and a little disappointed in Stiller's usual stellar performance. On some level, I thought the movie was a bit of a slap in the face to combat veterans & what they've endured. There were some good lines, though. Not the least of which was about going full ******. Finally, something to take the place of the much overused "git-r-dun".

I haven't seen the movie, and now I probably won't. Thanks for letting me know about the dialogue.

WTF???

It wasn't a slap in the face of veterans. It was a slap in the face of the hollywierd attitude toward vets. Their platitudes and condescension were laid waste in this movie. While not, "the funniest move ever", it was certainly worth the time and cash we spent going to see it.

The subtle reference to Steve Coogan's other movie character (Hamlet 2) where he plays Jesus in the musical (with his comment about the Studio being God and he, the Director, being Jesus) was well played. Not explained to the audience but left up to them to connect the dots.

Lots of stuff like that throughout.

Jack Black's, "We have to hurry! They'll wake back up in 16 hours!" was a classic.

OK, that there is not a ringing endorsement as it shouldn't take that much to rise above his usual sucky work. Still, it's on my list of DVD's to rent. I figure it should be out by next Tuesday.

Exactly. I didn't say best movie of all times, just a very good Ben Stiller movie. For example, I liked Something About Mary, but not so much Meet the Parents.

It is a vulgar, non-politically correct movie. If that's not your type, you won't like this movie. It's currently number 1, so it'll probably be January or February before it hits DVD.

I truely hate Tom Cruise.
I do too which is one of the reasons I sorta liked him in this part. He was the antithesis of what he usually is.
Wow there is a word you don't see used every day! Somebody has subscribed to Readers Digest.

I love a great comedy but I get tired of shows that think the only way to be funny is use excessive profanity. It just grows old after a while. I don't know anyone that has seen it but will wait for reviews from friends before I spend the time and money. Commercials are funny and the fact that it has been protested by the PC crowd makes me want to see it as my small counter protest.

Intelligent people like stoopid humor, too.

Sarcasm and inappropriate behavior is hilarious. Old School is an excellent example; Pineapple Express was not. It's usually a crap-shoot.
