I watched it several times to see just where the scooter came from. He was on screen the the whole time. The truck just mowed him down.

If you are going to pull stuff like merging with traffic like that, ride something with an engine that gives you the option. I watched it a few times, and the scooter misjudged his angle and speed of the truck. In a merge from a safe area (like a curb or parking lot), it is the merging vehicle's responsibility to make the entrance safely.

It didn't gross me out, but I feel bad for the rider's family that has his death plastered all over the internet......

I have not watched and will not watch this because I know how much this stuff gets under my skin and seared into my brain. So, BTW, thanks for the ***************. But I have read the posts. Can someone summarize what happened?

A guy on a scooter or some smallish bike is running down the road going from left to right across the lane as the road Ys ahead. As he travels across the lane to make the Y a large haul truck (not 18 wheeler but close) runs him down.

Slap over him with a front wheel then proceeds to mangle him into several parts under the rear tires as he slows down.

At least the rider was only hurting for a few seconds.

This was an overseas traffic cam from an Oriental country.

Yikes! I'm feeling queasy just from the description.

Have not seen anything like that since my early days. One of my first 10-50 Fatality assignments was just around midnight. Had to take pics of a motorcycle accident where the guy topped a sharp hill at 100+, went airborne and struck a utility pole sideways about half way up the pole. I had to shoot his injury photos for the SHP in four different frames with a walk between each shot.

Not sure who did the most misjudging in this video. The truck may have thought the scooter was clear of his path and never saw it because it was so far beneath his line of sight and so close to the bumper. Probably a good thing that the truck locked up his brakes and finished the guy off. What would have been left after the initial impact would not have wanted to live.

Sad, very sad!

Eh, this one didn't even make me flinch. I get sick watching animal videos like the recent puppy off a cliff vid. Although the one type of human vid that got to me was the taped beheadings, especially the ones with dull knives and it takes 20-30 seconds to grind through the neck while you hear the screaming then gurgling.

I thought the puppy one was fake. Even PETA said the sounds on the video weren't consistent with the doppler effect, etc.

The Daniel Pearl execution. Man, that one got me big time!

Like others, I've watched it several times trying to piece together the "chain of events."

Seems to me that the majority of mistakes were made by the scooter rider. I can't help but wonder what that rider was thinking. It seemed like he had the same attitude I've seen in drivers here in the states as they launch out into traffic... "Oh, they'll slow down." The truck driver plainly tries to avoid the scooter, twice. Once by pulling left and crossing the painted line when the scooter first starts moving left. Then the driver tries to yank it to the right when it's apparent the scooter intends to keep going left. Unfortunately, it wasn't near enough to avoid the tragedy.

Lesson(s) learned? IF you're gonna pull a dumb *** stunt like that, you better have the ponies to rapidly put space between you and the truck. Another lesson is something I already knew, them scooter people either got cojones of steel or brains of wood.

Gunny to the WTF is up with the folks who keep driving on by?

Terrible thing. :(

That amazing (in a morbid sort of way). I had a highschool mate who ran from the cops , crashed at high speed, was ejected from the car and hit the pegs on a telephone pole and died. he was stuck up there for a couple hours... really gruesome stuff.

Dude, feel sorry for the truck driver, that's it.
Are you fu%*!#@ kidding?!?!? After watching it again a few times, it looks like there was enough ground covered while the scooter was in front of the truck that the truck driver was soley responsible for maintaining his distance. It still may not excuse the scooter driver from driving like a nob, but come on! It definitely reinforces the reminder that threats can came at you from all directions, even behind.
I agree with you 100%

The truck driver should be charged with manslaughter and sent to jail.

I watched it to where he went under the front tire - that was enough. I was thinking about a big ruckus for around town, but maybe not. The kids would want to ride it and that doesn't look like a good idea. There is something positive to say about going faster than the crowd. Speed keeps the action in front of the bike and gives us some control over the situation. The truck driver was wrong, but the scooter had no business there.
Yessir! I do everything I can to stay away from the "Big Boys" on the road. This just re-affirms that.

I'd rather be caught speeding then be in front or behind of a rig.

Man, that was nasty... especially the arm flapping around at the very end....

I'm pretty squeamish and didn't think it was that bad. It's taken from a traffic camera that's maybe 30' up and about 150' feet away. I mean, it's VERY clear that he's not walking away but it's not like you can see his nads or eyeballs popping out. I think it's probably good to watch at least once if for no other reason than to impress upon you the need to respect trucks...

...this poor guy obviously didn't.

Lucky for him it was lights-out in a flash. I actually feel worse for the truck driver. Looking at it I totally agree with Wfooshee in post #13. The truck driver looks like he was trying to get around the slow moving scooter by moving left but just then the scooter started to go left. The truck reversed his turn just when the scooter [unexpectedtly?] braked and that was the end of that. The truck driver was definately following too close but come on, that kinda crap happens all the time - getting stuck behind some ***** (in this case the scooter) who's oblivious to the world around him. It happened to me THIS MORNING when some ***** in a panel truck flew out of a gas station right in front of me and the ten other drivers behind me and proceeded to tool along at 30mph in a 45mph zone IN THE MIDDLE OF FOOKING RUSH HOUR on a busy main road like there was no one else on the FOOKING planet!!!!!! Who knows who's really at fault but the driver's the one that will live the rest of his live with the memory of seeing the smush up close and personal. Yuck.

Two lessons really: 1) Situational awareness = living to see another day, and, 2) The other guy's lack of SA is not an excuse to drive so wrecklessly that you kill him when he makes a mistake.
