My guess it is gonna be an early start (8ish) but at this moment it is just a guess. Gary and I are gonna go and ride the planned route soon and we will decide after that.

Matt great idea on the voting..........

Don't want to be too intrusive, but is there any chance you can post the intended route along with the starting time once you figure it out? I know that at least a couple of us are in initial planning stages that include staying Friday night around LA with family (e.g., madmike2 in Pasadena and me in Granada Hills). Since I'm reasonably certain that 33 is on your intended route, I wonder if there isn't a place south (or more accurately: east) of Santa Barbara where I might head up in the reverse direction (or just find a later point) to join the ride rather than making it all the way to Santa Barbara or Goleta before doubling back (or missing the start time). I've been thinking of heading up through Fillmore, Santa Paula and Ojai but if it doesn't work, it doesn't.

Thats kinda what we are planning at this point. We think it would be good to pick out some pick up points along the way. Ojai would be one, Lockwood Valley road another and so on.

What we are trying to avoide is a huge number of bikes all rolling out at SB at the same time. We will also have stopping points along the way so that everyone can ride at there own pace ;)

Will keep this a current as i can.

Excellent logistical planning, Richard! Myself and other Zonies will be riding up from Orange, CA; a Ojai meet sounds good!

For what it is worth, I marked "No" for the canyon rides as I will be in the cage with my wife. That many corners would not work for her or the upholstery on her side of the car. We will however hook up with the group towards the end of the ride if possible.

Any other cagers or just me?

I didn't think of posting this right under the annoucement, but I guess I should have.

The "plan" is to have a small-ish group start in the morning (9am or earlier depending on the final route decision) and ride to several "checkpoints" along the route. It would be nice to have people meet us at the checkpoints and then the group can grow.

This serves two purposes:

- It keeps a HUGE group from leaving the SB area and dealing with traffic first thing in the morning

- It allows people riding in to meet at a convenient point along the way from their house

- The ride will include the ashes, but Tim's wife will not join us until the end of the ride. The only real thing you will miss by starting along the route is a little scenery

I will be posting the route and the proposed times that we will be at those checkpoints when the planners get it finalized.

Finally, this ride will be "self-paced' and "self-completed". We will set a schedule and stick to it. The reason we need to do this is so we are not gone all day trying to wait for the end of the group. I expect there to be a large showing and we will not be able to wait at every turn to see if the last guy is still there. Bring your GPS track, route file, map, directions, etc. In other words, be sure you know where you are going and can get there on your own.

In reality, this will probably end up being a multi-group ride all headed in the same direction at about the same time.

More to follow...

I wish I could make this, but it would mean not going to my brothers wedding a few weeks later. I have to live with my family, so I will just have to send my best wishes and condolences.

For those of us who are distant challenged I'm sure there will be a lot of pic's posted of the event....Wish I could be there

There has been talk of webcasting the service so you guys maybe able to be there after all...
