Purely aesthetic is the very antithesis of a "farkle." A farkle has to be functional and add sparkle.

If you start adding purely aesthetic mods you'll be headed down a slippery slope. Where will it end? LED under body lights? Chrome hand grips? Neon helmet mohawks?
It protects the filter from being punctured by flying road debris. There, now it adds sparkle, AND is functional. Didn't even have to change anything in the design either. :D
Ah, so... I see. It is filter armor. Everyone on the FJR dual sport team will want one! ;)

Thank God. I wouldn't look forward seeing a bunch of neon fauxhawks at FJR gatherings. :p

I agree that it looks more like it would act as an insulator (keeping your filter warm) and not really a heat sink/dissipator. Normally you'd want something with lots of thin fins for high surface area and fairly intimate contact with the part to be cooled. An air gap between the parts acts as further insulation.

Something like this:

I disagree.

That sucker fits on there pretty tight. You don't really need the set screws. In fact it is hard to remove due to the vacuum or suction once it's on. I don't know if it does a huge amount of cooling, but it does some.

+1, Gunny; excellent call there by gixxerjasen, I ride Mexico many thousands of miles each and every year and you would not believe the road debris that comes flying up hitting my FJR Miss Lucy Liu en Las Caminos. If HotRodZilla does start producing these, I will buy one just for the reason that you stated in protecting the oil filter from being punctured by flying road debris! Es Verdad, ese!

See above HRZ ^^^^^^ There's now 2 of us :)

Haha...Ok, the next time I'm at my parent's house, I'll take a look in my dad's machine shop. If there is any aluminum round in there, maybe I'll get a hold of SomeGuy and have him send me his cover. That would be way easier than re-inventing the wheel. A few hours for the first set up, and I think they could run pretty fast. I even know they guy to anodize them.

However, it has been a very long time since I've done any work in that shop, and I don't know if I feel like re-hiking that learning curve again. Maybe I'll con Patch into helping me. He's good at this stuff.

Hey 'zilla...

If you made some of these with the finned body just a few inches longer it would stick out even further into the cool breeze for improved cooling, and also function as a slider and highway peg.

:p

Yessssssssss !! Peer pressure, a wonderful thing :D

And with all this oil cooling being said, the FJR has an oil cooler built in. Do agree that it may provide some road debris protection (and a little bling).

You know majicmaker, if 'Zilla does make Oil Filter Cover/Coolers and they are available in anodized black: You could take them to Puerto Rico and sell them as Dildos!

Oh, thanks for reminding me. Three more things I need to add to my list of farkles.

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with those. They ARE slicker than nasal mucus, but let's face it...they're strictly an aesthetic farkle, as FredW was mentioning.

They actually look spectacular, and Gary does fantastic work!

Sticking up for Gary a little, mostly because he does such nice work (even though I've yet to buy anything from him yet) those tail cones actually do become functional sparkle if you are one of those that have instituted the Trooper mod bafflectomy. It smooths out the exhaust flow so you don't get as much of the raspy, wheeze effect on trailing throttle. I suppose that you could say that because this is just an acoustic change that it is still an aesthetic one?

Yeahbut...if you didn't do the Trooper Mod (why anyone would) then the addition of the tail cones is unquestionably aesthetic. And this in NO way undermines Gary's excellent work on FJR goodies.

I'll admit I was just out looking at my stock exhaust thinking "Dang, that extender does make them look much better."
