Good route. If it were me, I'd bypass 166 to 101 and stick to 33 to 58 West, pick up 229N to 41W then catch your 101 again. IMO, 166 doesn't offer near as much as 58 does this time of year. Epic wildflower bloom in the Soda Lake region as well as Shell Creek right off 58 and if you're here, you really gotta hit 229.

The Alder Creek slide (newest, southern-most slide on Hwy 1) may be safe by the time your here.

Opps i can do that........but do i really wanna go to Monterey again (going to the Clement on Friday).

We could go south and run the border, or we could......ummm let me look.

I have to be here on the 30th as we have a dinner party but i am free after that until the 6th........

I will have a look.

how far are you comfy riding in a day?

For the final thrill of the trip, be sure to fly out of John Wayne airport (SNA). The pilots have to be specially certified by the FAA, as they have a noise abatement take off due to all the rich folks under the flight path in Newport Beach. They turn onto the runway, lock the brakes, then run the engines up to full throttle. The take off rotation is at maximum angle of attack, and once they reach their first altitude, they level off and throttle back to minimum thrust. They never used to warn passengers about the procedure, but now they do.

The other option (and my personal favorite) is to fly into Long Beach airport. It's actually closer to Anaheim, has less traffic, and is an old Art Deco terminal from the 40's; they still deplane via stairways instead of jetways. When I lived in Buena Park, it was my preferred airport.
