The pseudo event formerly known as The So-Cal Solstice whatchamacallit is being moved to Saturday January 10th, 2009, to coincide with the 58th anniversary of Chuck Hickey's birth date.

In order to show our Universal Praise for Hickey Baby's fine character and uber-coolness, the Up-Chuck 1000 will celebrate our friends birthday by riding a thousand twisty miles in his backyard of So-Cal.

Details to come, but plan on being in So-Cal for a special birthday ride to honor our sheep-plowing friend.

Please send your RSVP to me off-list to george AT georgezelenz DOT com

And yes, there will be cake.

21 riders so far and counting.

One from Portland, one from Seattle, one from Canuckistan, and one from Colorado, so no excuses kiddies!

I'd love to come out and ride this but I have a dillema.... either I ride out there and do the SS1000 in honor of chicky, or I cage it out, and bring him his birfday sheep. I know he does it, but I just can't seem to understand how he straps a sheep down to his bike for long rides.

He deflates it and places it in his saddlebag.

So you could do the same, and then ride out. :D

Helping.....

Yeah, I thought this is why we all carry air-inflaters on our bikes. Isn't that what you use yours for??

Huh... so he goes 'artificial' while on the road. Gocha! :good:
Not necessarily.

For example, a photo of Chuck in his younger days on a ride with his 'best' gal.

Check out that AWESOME auxiliary fuel cell strapped to the top of the front fender!!!

The Hickster was an early adopter of LD farkles..... ;)

Bump for this rapidly approaching event.

Beeroux,

I would like to confirm the start time of the ride. I had thought you had said it starts at 7PM on Friday, Jan 9, but another participant just said he thought it started at 7 am. I notice your initial post on this thread says Sat, Jan 10.

Also, are you planning to modify the route because of the recent extreme snowstorms. I know on the roads to Big Bear, while chains are not required at this time, there is this advisory:

State Route 38 (Big Bear to Redlands)

OPEN -- Roads are slick, beware of black ice -- No Restrictions R0

Will these conditions affect our routes, on either the Northern or Southern sections.

thanks,

Doug

Doug.

The ride indeed starts at 7pm on Friday the 9th, or 1900 if your hair is cut short.

Still too far out to rule out any part of the route weather wise. I'll be making a final determination 36-48 hours out from the start.

You did send me a note to my regular e-addy right? You got all the maps, right?

Thanks for the clarification GZ (and asking the question Doug.)

Looking forward to this one.

Folks.

The route has been changed to avoid night time mountain ice, and we've changed location for the Start-End to Carlsbad, CA.

Hickey Baby's Birthday party will be at Pizza Port in Carlsbad at about 7:10pm Saturday the 10th, if you'd like to join us. Feel free.

Since the ride departs this Friday Evening, if you wanna ride this sucker, you better get me a note pronto.

Cost is only $20 plus you chip in for pizza and beers for Chuck and myself.

This is one sick and demented ride, definitely one for the books.

Last Call Ya'll.
